According to this video you can just go ahead and toss your water bottle full of water into the fire. http://www.metacafe.com/watch/428567/cam鈥?/a>
Otherwise I would venture that if you don't have a pot you don't need to boil water because likely you're lost and desperate and you need water NOW, to survive for the next few hours, and don't have time to worry about ingesting bacteria, viruses, or intestinal parasites.
Starting a fire without matches requires at least a knife and a shoe string or other string of some sort to make a hand bow. You have to prepare a dowel, a base, a hand block out of wood, and then prepare dry kindling out of dry wood and plant materials, and stroke that bow like mad until smoke comes out, and then lift the kindling bundle and blow the smoke into fire.
how could you boil water without a pot?How do you boil water in the wilderness?
You need a container of come sort to boil water. You can get a big stone, get another stone (called "Hammer stone". Used in ancient times to make spears, arrow heads, etc) and make a hole (bashing together) Most likely it won't be round, but better than nothing.
To make fire, get a dry stick, rub it ontop of dried anything(grass, branches, MUST BE DRIED, ontop of dry things), tip of wood to dry thing. you have to have some serious speed to make the fire.
Boiling water w/o a pot - place hot stones from the fire into the expedient container in which you store your water.
Starting fire with 'natural' materials - make and use a 'firedrill', find flint to strike sparks off your knife. (You DO have a knife, right? If you don't, you're kind of hosed.)
I don't think you can. That's why you should carry matches and iodine tablets.
you can boil water in a paper bag. yes it can be done, yes i have done it. no the bag doesn't burn up. it will burn down to just above the waterline but no futher.
you can boil water in a paper cup or if you have a big enough leaf you could manipulate it into a crude pot. or look for a discarded can. the type of fire starter most people will say is a bow and drill but for that to be effective you have to have the right touch. i would say look for a discarded bottle or use binoculars as a magnifying glass. or you could use flint or some other hard rock and strike it with a knife or other piece of steel to produce sparks. a bow and drill is excellent if you know how to use one effectively and they are relatively easy to make
