For WIlderness Survival instruction that far excels scoutings level of training check out Three Red Trees School in Northfield, Connecticut. Their location is easy to get to and the folks who run it have been working with kids and native survival skills for a long time.

From the East, West, or South: Take I-84 to Waterbury. In Waterbury get onto Route 8 North. Get off at Exit 41. Go left at end of exit. Take first right onto Marsh Road. Take first left onto Reder Road. At stop sign take a right onto Newton Road. Newton Road will turn to dirt after a couple hundred yards. The second house on right is a single story, brown with yellow trim and your destination.

How do you think the explores felt when they explored the world?Would you be afraid to walk into the wilderness at night by yourself?
I do it all the time.
they weren't by themselvesWould you be afraid to walk into the wilderness at night by yourself?
No, well it depends where and what woods
Depends upon what kind of wildlife inhabits the local terrain. Most explorers explore during the day.
The explorers would of probably felt ecstatic at being able to explore the world, afterall, they wouldn't of chose to do it had they not been interested in finding new things (",)

What man had a tree named for him and died while exploring the Washington wilderness?

There is no "Washington Wilderness," so maybe you mean the Mount Washington Wilderness? The Douglas Fir, which is common there, was named after biologist and explorer David Douglas. (Douglas Fir is not its official botanical name, but its common name.) I am not sure he died there, but he well may have.

Pray they have a good GPS service and can find a connection for their cellphones, because the animals are surely not going to talk to them much less give them directions back to their car.

ignore evil and say prayers to God
    Pray. plan and simple :-)
    borrow some magic moron underwear
Turn to God with all your burdens in prayer. Ask for protection and guidance or for all your needs.

There is no devil. If there is a devil it dwells within you. Everyone has the potential for good and evil. You can choose to be good or evil. A church cannot save you if it's members are not sincere. It may help you progess on the path of righteousness, but true salvation lies within. Know yourself my friend.
get down on your knees and pray to God
Yes, the Prince of the power of the air is everywhere: in church and outside the church. Even Jesus himself dealt with this: Judas was among the 12 disciples!

Study God's Word and endeavor to possess the mind of Christ Jesus and DO what He says. This is what we are to do while sojourners on this present earth.

Be at peace and be a light in a lost and dying world.
love all, show mercy and compassion, and forgive all even your enemies.

feed the hungry, take care of the widowed and orphaned, give a freezing man your coat, visit the sick, give a thirsty man a drink of water. these things are the truth of God's love.

    Peace!!

Is it legal to live in the wilderness of Colorado?

I want to live primitively in the rockies of colorado but i dont want to buy land or any of that. i just want to go out and live the way my ancesstors did long ago. hunting and fishing for food and making my own shelter and clothes, etc. what laws would i have to follow or are there any?Is it legal to live in the wilderness of Colorado?
Actually there are books on this stuff. But I would look more towards Montana. There is more space than Colorado for government land. That means more land to lose yourself in. Go to www.miltiaof montana.com and look at the survival books they sell. There was a guy that posted here a few months back that did it for a couple of years and was giving advice out. I will try to find the link if I can.
wow, ignorance is bliss and rampant i see by many of the answers here.

in colorado (as with many other states) there is vast areas of national forest. go to the government website for specific info but keep in mind they do not encourage or promote living in forest so they will not mention it specifically.. in most national forest land they ask you (sometimes making it "sound" or "read" like a rule) to register for back country camping but there is no rule against not registering and it is 100% free to camp. i know you are talking about living, but for rules you will only find info on camping which you would essentially being camping for a very long time. i believ there is a limit how long you can stay at one spot and you are not allowed to build structures or cut live trees. it is a vast area though and easy to hide a small shelter. to really stick to the rules you would probably have to move every 30 days, only burn and use dead/fallen wood, maintain a hunting and fishing license and follow seasonal %26amp; limit rules for both. it is perfectly legal to live there but not easy to do so if you follow the laws exactly. if you go deep enough it is easily conceivable that you could do whatever you want and never see another human for years on end. the 2 big things that would attract atention is suspicion of poaching indicated by gunfire heard in july and fear of forest fire indicated by smoke from your campfire being too big and where no people are thought to be camping. outside of those 2 things nobody in forest service or state wildlife offices really care about one person may or may not be doing 100 miles from any trail, road, or building in the national forestIs it legal to live in the wilderness of Colorado?
You have to follow the same laws if you were living in a town or city. You either have to own the land or get permission from the landowner. As far as fishing and hunting, you would need to get licenses and follow the seasons.
as far as i know, you can on camping ground (if fees apply, you must pay them) but elsewhere in an undesignated area no because it's government property and you aren't a paying tenant.

  • How long could someone survive in the wilderness with a dog and a .22?

It would probably be in the Rocky mountains would have a good amount of bullets and clothes. How long could someone survive in the wilderness with a dog and a .22?
    hours, days, weeks, months, years.

Way too many variables. Are you planning on living in a cave, a tent, or a cabin? Are you planning on hunting and trapping or just straight survival? Is someone after you? Do you plan on resupplying? Do you plan on coming back? Do you own the land or are living on public land? How to plan on traveling? Clothes weigh you down, you can never have enough bullets.
The gun is gonna be next to useless over time cuz you'll run out of bullets. For hunting, you'll end up scaring away game %26amp; will have to travel much more each time. For self-defense, you'd have to be an excellent marksman under pressure, and even then you'd be wasting ammo that could be spent on hunting. The gun will not last as long as you potentially can. Just watch that show with Bear whatshisface or Survivor Man - they never bring a gun.

If it's a domesticated dog, you'll have to work harder to feed the both of you. The typical pet canine has no survival skills. You'll have to struggle to teach it to hunt, the dog won't learn on his/her own since those are skills learned from the pack (and right now, that consists of just you %26amp; the dog).

You'd need some survival training to last more than a week, regardless of supplies. How long could someone survive in the wilderness with a dog and a .22?
that all depends on the persons level of common sense and their own survival instincts. the .22 would supply you with food and a small level of protection while the dog would likely provide only company and possibly protection (or at least warning).
If you have to ask, probably not too long. The wilderness is not like a video game, if you don't survive, you can't push reset and start over.
Would depend on who that "someone" was". Lots of folks I know wouldn't last an hour.

What is wilderness and is it a good idea?

I am getting ready for a test tomorrow and I am having trouble finding the anwser to this question. Any help you could give would be greatly appricated. What is wilderness and is it a good idea?
Wilderness is a vast area where wild life lives. A good idea? What do you mean by it being a good idea?

Is blue wilderness going to harm my puppy?

It doesn't say its for puppies. I also give her puppy chews vitamins. Is blue wilderness going to harm my puppy?
Blue Wilderness should be ok for puppies as long as the dog is burning through the protein. The ideal food should be Blue Puppy until the dog is at least 8 months old. You also don't really need to give the dog extra vitamins, as this may be too much nutrition since Blue includes many vitamins and minerals in an optimally synergistic formulation to prevent imbalances in the pets body.

Do you carry a compass when you're in the wilderness?

I'm a wilderness survival trainer, I was surprised to hear how few people carry a compass with and/or know how to use it or read a map.

Do you carry a compass, know how to use it, can read a map efficiently?Do you carry a compass when you're in the wilderness?
Yes, Yes, and Yes. I also normally carry a GPS. I worry about being able to tell where I am on the map if I were to get lost. The compass doesn't help much if you don't know where you are. A small GPS unit solves this problem.

That may be overkill, but I normally am responsible for a dozen or more scouts so I like to "be prepared."
Even though I have a Garmin Gs60 I also carry a compass (handed down from my hunter dad) and a map of the area. Back ups are always good to have. And it's always a good idea to orient as to your position and where you are going before you go into the woods. Have a reasonable knowledge of the terrain. And be able to take that information and relate it to an oriented map. Also keeping yourself aware of your surroundings, the time of day and the position of the sun are all good ways to ensure your safe return. Do you carry a compass when you're in the wilderness?
I always carry both a map %26amp; compass whenever I am hiking in a new location. However, I lead hikes at a few places that I know so well I never look at the map or have a need for a compass.

90% of the time when I do use them, I rarely use the compass. If the map is accurate I can normally orient the map on landmarks alone. I only whip out the compass if I need to triangulate or am someplace with no good reference points to orient the map.

I almost never use a GPS. I like one that can give me UTM points as well as Long/Lat. and Altitude. It's nice to know where you are, but the GPS screen maps don't give me the same picture a map does.
usually because it's in the pack

in the Smokies, I don't always but it depends on which trail

there are some trails that I am familiar with where it is easy to get lost if you get just a few yards off the trail and get slightly disoriented for just a few seconds

if I'm in a new area or if it has been awhile since last visit, yes I always carry map, compass, basic survival kit, and I Always make sure someone knows where I'm gong, when I'll be back, and when to call for someone to coming looking for me
Only if I'm going into a real wilderness area.

Don't need one for general hiking trails in well maintained areas with rangers in the area.

Neo's need to prepare well, know where they're going and learn

what to do when needed, incl. compass use.
    Yes...and a map...and a GPS.

I do know how to use it (and read a map), thanks to the Scouts. When I was in Army basic training I helped my squad members in their training on map and compass.

I'm also a geologist and work with topo maps almost every day.
carry a couple but i never use them, i like to use the landmarks and terrain to find my way instead, the sun and stars also helpful
I always have a map and compass when on the trail.

To keep my skills practiced I take an orienteering course or reread one of my map/orienteering books annually.
I usually carry a compass when I go out fishing. I always have one with me when I go hunting. The only time I didn't bring one I got lost.
    yes

Is blue wilderness going to harm my puppy?

It doesn't say its for puppies. I also give her puppy chews vitamins. Is blue wilderness going to harm my puppy?
Blue Wilderness is ok for puppies. The Blue Puppy foods would be more ideal until the dog is approx. 8mos-1 year. The new Blue Wilderness has a protein % of 34, where it was 42%, by cutting all of the grains out of the new formulation.

I use blue large breed for my mastiff and lab, after having terrible results with another brand.

And you shouldn't have to by extra vitamins for the dog, because Blue has all of the vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants the dogs need to grow. Vitamins will be too much on the dogs system. Is blue wilderness going to harm my puppy?
You should ask your vet. I think it is too high in protein for a young dog. Read this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panosteitis

  • How to start a fire in the wilderness?

What diffrent meathods can a person use and how do you know if you have the right size sticks. How to start a fire in the wilderness?
There are several different methods for starting a fire. It's obvious that you need oxygen, fuel and heat for a fire.

For heat, you can use a match, propane lighter, magnesium/steel striker, flint and steel.

Oxygen may seem like a no brainer, but it has to be able to get to the heat and fuel. Be sure that air can be funneled to the fuel.

As far as the size of the sticks, you want to start with the smallest size possible. You can use moss, shredded bark. dry cotton cloth, the heart of a pine log. There's a lot of turpentine in pine wood and it's highly concentrated in the center. Leaves don't burn well, but produces a lot of smoke. Pine needles make a hot fire, but burns fast so have your small twigs close by. Pine cones are good, crumble it up to make smaller pieces and shred the inner core. Another good fire starter is shredded cedar or juniper bark. These fuel sources are not found everywhere, but the main idea is to use something that will shred or crumble up into small pieces. I've even used a battery and steel wool to start a fire.

Next, get tiny twigs. These are going to be the size of a pencil lead or smaller. Then gradually build up the size of the wood as the fire builds up. Everything you need is on the ground. Live wood will not burn, so there is no need to chop on a live tree or bush. Use only the dead wood you find on the ground. A cooking fire will be small and you want it to burn down to coals for the best cooking fire. Most of the time you will not use anything bigger than the thickness of your lower arm. You don't need a saw or an axe. If you can't break it by hand, then it's not dried out enough.

After you are through with the fire, let it go out and completely cool down. If you have enough water then use some of it stirring the ashes to mix them up with the water. Use your hands to make sure all coals are completely cold, then scatter the ashes. You want the scene to look as untouched as possible. Scatter dirt and leaves over the area. If you're using a fire ring or an established fire pit, thie scattering is not necessary, but the cooling is.
The simplest is using a match and tinder. To start a fire by rubbing sticks to gather is actually the hardest possible way. Flint and steel, or a magnesium fire starter are easier the then stick method. To learn how to start a fire with a bow fire stick there are many videos on the web I suggest you watch those.

http://video.search.yahoo.com/search/vid鈥?/a>How to start a fire in the wilderness?
To start the fire, you can use anything small, dry leaves, dry pine cones, small dry branches. Basically, anything dry that isn't dense. To keep it going, larger branches are better.

For a real treat, and I mean it...a real treat for anyone involved in outdoor living and guiding. there is a book.

Not just a book. A lifetime of wisdom from the world's finest navigator, in his day.

Nature Is Your Guide by Harold Gatty.

It's out of print but findable.

It is a joy to read, a goldmine of information, and the finest book I have ever bought.

I have over two thousand books at home.

Here is the story of Harold Gatty, the man who navigated for Wiley Post on his circumnavigation of the world by air.

He trained on ships, was head-hunted by the US Air Force, wrote the official navigation manual for them, and is still highly respected many years after his death, though many people have never heard of him. Shame. He was a pioneer in navigation, and a very capable one.

What a nice gesture on your part, you are a good friend! Even though etiquette frowns on gift cards, get one for your friend in this case. For almost every outdoor enthusiast I know, their gear is a very personal thing, and they really like to get their own stuff. There are so many variables in gear items, and reasons why one thing will be better for them than another. What one person considers indispensable someone else will see as superfluous. Store workers don't help because they want you to buy what they need to sell, or they will tell you what they really want for themselves. Items on "gift idea" lists tend to be gadgety and the novelty of having them wears off. So you will most likely be wrong no matter what you pick. It is not your fault, and it doesn't mean your friend is hard to buy for, it is just the nature of the beast!!

On the other hand we always have a little wish list going of stuff we are eyeballing, and stuff we are saving for. So the money will go a long way. I recommend a gift card to Campmor.com because they have a huge assortment of excellent gear for every budget. Their prices are good and anyone with internet can access their store.Need to find a gift for a friend beginning a job as a wilderness guide any ideas?
This may be a little out of your price range, but maybe you could buy him a handheld GPS. that way he would never get lost! if he has that or you do not want to shell out that much money, you can always go back to the basics and buy him stuff he would need on the job. socks, hats, sunnglasses all may sound simple but definitely helps.
A good steel thermos bottle, couple pairs wool socks, bug dope, steel whistle to keep bears away, a backpack type 1 liter water bottle, emergency signal mirror, compass and map of area he will be working at sounds practical.
Get him a mod 629 44 mag with a 4 inch barrel and one bullet and the front sight shaved off.......

he'll know what to do with it !

ThanksI need some help please! How do I go about measuring a dry resin grandulars in ounces out in the wilderness?
    Roughly 10 pennies = 1 ounce.

Take a half-full cup of water and submerge your 10 pennies. Mark where the water-line had risen to.

Remove the pennies and submerge your best-guess amound of resin. Add or remove resin granules until the wate-line reaches where the pennies were marked...

If the resin floats, then tie a pebble to it - just remember to drop that same pebble in the cup with the pennies and mark the new water level.

Deion "Mule" ChristopherI need some help please! How do I go about measuring a dry resin grandulars in ounces out in the wilderness?
That depends on whether you mean ounces as weight or volume. Volume is easier. Two tablespoons to the ounce, three teaspoons to the tablespoon. You might try two scant tablespoons. For 0.9 oz of weight, you may have to build yourself a balance and use coins as your weights. Or you could do what I used to do and pre-measure your materials before you go out.

Do I need a permit to hike around the wilderness in BC canada?

its not any known provincial park.. I plan on just hiking randomly deep into the blue river, BC wilderness and camp around. very unlikely to run into any humans, because the nearest town only has 260 people, and Im gonna be 100 miles away from that. and Im gonna be there during winter-spring

if I need permit, where do I get it fromDo I need a permit to hike around the wilderness in BC canada?
    NO
Im pretty sure you do not need a permit for hiking around BC. If you are planning on hunting while you are there you definitely need to get a permit. But just camping and hiking you should be fine. Be safe and have fun!Do I need a permit to hike around the wilderness in BC canada?
I've never heard of anyone needing a permit to hike in BC except on some very popular trails such as the West Coast Trail. However, if you're unfamiliar enough with hiking in BC that you don't know that already, perhaps you don't know enough about it to do it safely, especially in winter. Let someone know where you're going and when to expect you back.
I don't think so, I've done some hiking and never needed a permit. Just follow all forest and fire regulations, and don't disturb the wildlife too much.

  • What would a good thesis sentence be that relates to preserving the wilderness?

Why We Need a Bold Vision for Preserving Our Wilderness

Why does wilderness matter right now? It matters to me personally because I believe that our last public wilderness areas, with their rugged beauty, uncharted terrain, and ability to test human strength, are essential symbols of the American spirit.

But it also matters legally. According to the Wilderness Act of 1964, once a landscape has been altered by human development--including natural gas pipelines, oil drill heads, or roads for seismic thumper trucks--it can never become a protected wilderness area.

This is exactly the cynical calculus the Bush administration used to convert America's public lands into money-making ventures for a few energy companies.

Unlike any administration before it, the Bush White House claimed it had no legal requirement to protect wilderness lands, and so for eight long years, it refused to do so. Millions of acres of wilderness-quality lands were stripped of protection and opened for energy development.

We lost so much ground during the Bush administration, and we are still feeling the aftershocks: leasing, drilling permits, and off-road vehicle plans continue to be approved and destroy wilderness lands in my beloved Utah and elsewhere (see threatened areas on this map).

Secretary Salazar can change this. He can craft a new vision for preserving and managing the public's wilderness. I am hopeful that Salazar can take this step. He has spoken many times of his commitment to America's "treasured landscapes," but I encourage him to single out and prioritize our wilderness areas.

Because unlike other pieces of our national heritage--monuments such as the Lincoln Memorial or documents like the original Declaration of Independence--America's wilderness is not complete or set in stone. It can be added to, and deciding which landscapes should be preserved for posterity is an ongoing process.

A bottle of camping fuel and some matches. I know from experience.
Look for a Boy Scout manual, used at Salvation Army thrift shop or Goodwill, and they teach you how. It takes practice.

As a practical matter, I used to break off a small piece of an artificial fire log, and if it was rainy, and the Boy Scouts were cold, I whipped out that small piece, which is sort of wax and sawdust, and used if for a fast start.

If it was like 20 below zero, I would take small cans sold at sporting goods stores, and light it, it was a fast start. I just build a fire over it after I lit it, sacrificing it to the cause, and let the can and all burn up.

But, Boy Scouts for advancement have to light fires with matches, not gas; not paraffin; not Coleman fuel; not fire logs. it is part of the Scout training plan to develop leadership and confidence in the woods.

How do you take showers on wilderness camping trips?

what can you do to keep clean? How do you take showers on wilderness camping trips?
Buy a "SunShower". It's a black plastic bag (looks kind of like an oversized hot water bottle) with a hose nozzle and shut-off clamp that holds from one to 3 gallons of water (depends on what size you buy.) You fill it up and let it lay in the sun for a few hours. It absorbs the heat, can get up to about 105 degrees F, in fact, and you hang it in a tree and shower under it by releasing the clamp on the nozzle. I used one to wash my hair and shower every day for 3 weeks on an archaeology field crew out in a remote canyon in the Wyoming mountains. Boy, did that feel good after a hot dusty day of digging! You can order one from CampMor's online catalog. If this method isn't practical you can just use what I used to do on backbacking trips -- the mini-bucket sponge bath. I'd boil a little water with my campstove and then mix it with cold in a small plastic bucket I always carry in my backpack. Strip down and then quickly wash yourself all over with a lightweight wash cloth and dry yourself with a pack towel (this is a microfiber, fast-drying towel.) You don't really need soap (and the scent of soap can attract bugs and animals), just a good scrub, so rinsing isn't a big problem. Use what is left in the bucket to wash and rinse your hair. Let your washcloth and towel dry on a bush in the sun and they won't get funky.
Jeez, you're out camping for christ sakes, in the WILDERNESS. If you gotta wash, jump in the stream or river.

Rough it, you're not going to die if you don't wash for a few days. How do you take showers on wilderness camping trips?
For wilderness? Assuming that you are backpacking - I usually don't. You can jump in a lake or a creek (avoid using soap, it will contaminate the water) or use a moistened towel or washclothe.

When I was in Antarctica, I went for a whole month without taking a shower.
Why are you worried about keeping clean when youre back packing in the wilderness? If I get real muddy or grungy I just jump in the creek, stream, river, lake or ocean Im camping near. Ive been on 1 or 2 week back packing trips or longer without a shower or bath. No ones around so why bother. A wet wash cloth in the morning on my face is good to freshen up. No need to carry extra gear. that weight adds up fast!

Attacked by other players? I am asking this because of the new update with no reverants and the old wildy. In runescape i would like to train agility at the wilderness agility arena but can i go there without being?
I train my agility there a lot. I actually like the place better now without the revs than I did before.

For the most part, I've found that I can train for over an hour without being attacked by anyone. The PK'ers rarely come up there and there are usually 2 or 3 other "friendlies" running the course with you.

Now of course this is the wilderness and eventually a PK'er will come along and ruin your training, but it's no big deal. If you can see them ahead of time (they like to hide alongside the pipe tunnel obstacle, but you can still see the skull over their head) just hop worlds before they attack you. Even if they do kill you, as long as you have only 3 items on you, you won't lose anything when you die.

You don't need weapons and armor for agility so no reason to bring valuables up there. I take a spottier cape, boots of lightness and a dragon dagger p++. The dagger will slash the web at the lever and also serve as a deterrent for those annoying types that like to take a swipe at you occassionally as you run past.

How do I find the direction north in the wilderness?

If I'm lost does anyone know of a way to tell which way is north.... without the use of a compass. How do I find the direction north in the wilderness?
If it's evening and the sky is clear, look for the north star. The scoop of the Big Dipper constellation points to it. Follow that direction and you'll head north.

You can also study the moss on trees, and if you know the nearest river, just follow streams downhill until they meet bigger streams and finally a creek or river.

With a needle and a cork and some still water, you could also make your own compass (unless that's cheating).
If it is daytime, it's pretty easy, the sun rises in the east and sets in the west. If it is dark, use the North Star. How do I find the direction north in the wilderness?
If you wake up and the sun is rising and your facing the sun, North will be on your left and it will be on the right if your facing the setting sun.
    This is the 21st century...

    Dial 911

    Turn on your GPS
I guess you don't have a mobile phone with GPS either then?

    The important bit:

At local time NOON the Sun is due SOUTH.

If the Sun is clearly visible and you have a watch with hands, then point the hour hand at the Sun. Half way between the hour hand and the 12 o'clock position is SOUTH. SO North will be in the opposite direction.

Note 1: It is the other way around in the Southern Hemisphere.

Note 2: You should really take off Daylight Saving Time to be accurate.

Note 3: This is very hard to do on or near the Equator or near noon..so hopefully your wilderness is in the Far North!

Note 4: DO NOT LOOK DIRECTLY AT THE SUN while trying this....it does really work.
If you have a watch, the position of the sun

can give you north during the day.

(Point the hour hand at the sun,

1/2 the short distance between the hour hand

and '12` is south, the reverse direction is north.

    - A bit off if you're set to daylight savings time).

    Note:

If you're in the southern hemisphere north and

    south reverse in this proceedure.

If you're in the tropics, you need to know the

    season as well.

PS That "moss grows on the north side of the tree"

    is not too trustworthy.

What types of fuel would be used in the wilderness to light a fire?

i already know that tinder must be dry, light, and fluffy. catches to a matches flame. matches must be dry, toothpick size to finger size in diameter. wood can be wet if you are adding it to a large, blazing fire. but what would be "dry, finger size to wrist size"? this is to help light a fire if you are in the wild, and you are stranded or something like that. also, this is for a science trip to estes park, colorado for science camp. What types of fuel would be used in the wilderness to light a fire?
Silver birch barch apparently makes very good kindling.

Finger size to wrist size - of thickness ranging between finger width and size of wrist.

Don't try adding large pieces of wood too early or you may risk smothering the fire.
The best thing Ive found for starting camp fires arent matches they have magnesium/flint sticks.you scrape the magnesium off into a small pile in some dry wood and strike the flint for a spark.. works like a charm EVERY time. What types of fuel would be used in the wilderness to light a fire?
what about that stuff used to light a grill?....that could work right?
First off dont use real gas fuel. Use can buy cheap compacted dry flint like material. I use that its like a big match that lights for a couple minutes. Its easy light weight and cheap. Now if you have none of that with you try to find bark and little twigs.
A very good alternative to liquid fuel is something you can make at home. Mix sawdust shavings with old candle wax. Melt the wax add sawdust. put it into an old egg carton. place under kindling and light. paper, wax, wood. Catches everytime.

Runescape took away pvp in the wilderness a long time ago, why?

Because people were able to stand on one side and kill people walking by on the other side, it made many people angry so they just stopped PvP in the wild.

Runescape took away pvp in the wilderness a long time ago, why?
I think I remember them saying it was because people were using it to real world item trade. When they put in the trading update that would only allow players to trade so much at a time it made it harder for people to give away stuff in runescape for something in the real world. So people would go into the wilderness and purpously get killed so the item would be dropped and the real world item trading was still going on, so they just took out pvp. Later people complained about them taking it out so they put in special pvp worlds and adjusted the amount a player can gain when they kill somebody.
I personally play runescape, and have had some experience in this field. Jagex took away Player Vs. Player because people would be trying to do something non relevant to PvP and get killed doing it, for example Fist of Guthix, Jagex recieved many reports about this being outrageous considering they didn't want any part in PvP. Jagex had no choice but to remove it so they could keep members. They later put in PvP worlds because people starting complaining they couldn't PvP, again afraid to lose members they put in selective worlds for people who "want" to PvP. There for it is a persons choice to get killed in stead of an inevidablity.
They did it to stop RWT (Real World Trading). JaGex kept getting legal complaints about people trying to buy runescape money with real money, which was against the rules of the game, and a way people did this was by trading the money from one account, to the buyer, OR having someone with all the money in the wilderness and you kill them, then picking up the drop. They stopped it by putting a trade limit on and took away the wilderness and added PvP with random drops.
Yes, what Jason said, it made many players mad when this was done. A player would jump over the ditch and attack another player and then run back if they were losing. It basically killed PvP, so RuneScape re-created it.

It is much better now anyway, you can explore the wilderness without wear of other players. :)
people complained about being lured into the wild. then they made the ditch.

with every world having a dangerous pvp wild, drop trading is hard to monitor meaning it is possible for real world trading (buying, selling money, accounts)

there was no trade limit back in the day meaning you can give milliions for nothing and scamming was much higher back in the day.

the main reason jagex took away wild is because of real world trading.

Why always national parks mean place with lots of wilderness?

I mean why not national park is called animals' garden or habitat? Why always national parks mean place with lots of wilderness?
I think the Whitehouse is classed as a National Park. There are a lot of different National Parks.
the term national park was coined to indicate federal land set aside for conservation efforts to maintain wilderness areas for future generations. by the way the national park system has been adopted by nearly every country around the world since it was first instituted here in the US in the 1800's. there are other areas of the country that are listed as sanctuaries to prevent hunting of game animals. Why always national parks mean place with lots of wilderness?
I think animals like to live in national forests because there are no humans living there and no hunting.
That's funny. The nearest national park to me is in Philadelphia and contains such things as the Liberty Bell, Carpenters' Hall, and other buildings. Not much wilderness there.

Is there somewhere I can go into the wilderness and live off the land where no one will find me?

Where is the best place to go to live off the land? I want to be in the wilderness with no other humans around for hundreds of miles. Like maybe where that guy went in "Into the Wild." Where was it in the Alaska wilderness that he went? Cuz that's where I want to be.Is there somewhere I can go into the wilderness and live off the land where no one will find me?
It is a nice illusion, but in reality not a great idea.

A lot of what may look like free open wilderness in Alaska is actually owned by the state, native organizations and other parties, so really you can't just go wandering off into undeveloped land and assume you can live there, it is called trespassing.

You would need to find a land owner willing to let you use their land.

And even then there are legal issues surrounding hunting and fishing, as a non-alaskan resident you would be limited to what you could do, and even as a resident there are very specific times, locations, and seasons for hunting. So unless your aware of and in compliance with fish and game regulations your a poacher and again illegal. And may I say that Alaskans tend to be very serious about their wildlife, preservation, and hunting rights, and do not take hunting violations lightly.

Logistics are a whole other issue. Most people really do not have any idea what it takes to live in remote areas of Alaska, even with outside assistance available. Let alone trying to come up and do it on a whim.

** spoiler alert** And lastly may I mention that the "into the wild" guy died, so maybe it was not such a great idea anyhow? and for the record he was on a trail at the end of a subdivision road, hardly what an Alaskan would call the 'real wilderness'.

If you just want to get away from society, you might look into winter care taking at seasonal resorts or doing a remote field job.
When you do have an idea of getting away from society, how do you get information on care taking at seasonal resorts or doing remote field jobs? Is there somewhere I can go into the wilderness and live off the land where no one will find me?
    Hello there,

You could probably find a place somewhere near the Artic or in upper Alaska. Of course, surviving in the wilderness takes a lot of skills. If you do not know those before you try and have no one there to teach you, you most likely die. Pretty brutal life.

If the far northern wilderness does not interest you, you could try the tropical jungles of Brazil or somewhere in the Outback in Australia. Still need a thorough knowledge of survival skills.

    Later.
There is no where on the North American continent where you can go in hopes that no one will find you. Sooner or later, someone will. The smoke from your camp fire or fireplace WILL be investigated by Forest Service personnel. Anyone passing through your neighborhood on foot, horseback, boat, or airborne will be curious about who and what you are and what you are doing. It's a nice thought. REALLY! Been there - Done that! But unfortunately, there just aren't that many options left here in the USA or Canada to REALLY get lost in. Especially as lost as it sounds like you want to be. Keep in mind too that the guy I think you are referring to came to Alaska (where I live) and tried to get lost. He did. Lost EVERYTHING including his life for no other reasons than ignorance and poor planning. He didn't really think it over and prepare himself WELL and completely before he made his choices. I hope you do. Good luck.

Could this be a strategy for conquering the wilderness or just plain survival in a hardship situation:?

You buy some cheap land that nobody lives on so that the real estate value is affordable and you get tons of this kind of bad land.

You buy a little shed and place it on the land.

You cut a hole in the shed and build a little fireplace.

You grow and eat your own food on the land.

If the world faced a economic depression, would you do this?Could this be a strategy for conquering the wilderness or just plain survival in a hardship situation:?
I believe to help our self's during such times it would smart to think about doing it now.If we all grew a little bit of our own food we wouldn't be so bad off..Every one should have there own little garden and a little live stock to be able to live on.Not too much just enough to get by in case..Canning like my Grand Mother did should be a must for every house hold.Americans have become needy on others. They will be let down big time one day!!So go get you a piece of land as soon as you can..I don't believe that God intended for us to live this way..I believe we should live the way of the old days where we took care of our self's..Because when it comes right down to it when the crap hits the fan we will have to do for our self's and some people are not going to be able to survive!!...They will be the ones we will have to fear..Every American should take a crash coarse on survival just in case!.But there are a lot of programs on TV now that do that very thing.I learn a lot from watching the Animal Planet and T.L.C!!!!!!!!..Let me know where your land is so in case I need help I know where you are..My family is Military so if any thing were to happen I be right at my brothers house and believe me I will be safe there and he has a big farm in Mass!!!!!!!
Both and yes, I would do it if I had to. I was born and raised on a farm. We grew our own fruits, vegetables, cows, pigs, and chickens for food. I know how to plant and take care of a garden, hay field, just about all there is to know about running a farm. I would survive.Could this be a strategy for conquering the wilderness or just plain survival in a hardship situation:?
No land is free. Water and the lack of it determines what prospers. I've farmed Arizona.

The deserts are full of bones, those who failed, but dying ain't hard. You'll all get it done.

I'm steering toward the Northern Marianas. Look for me on NE portion of Rota Island
If the world faced a economic depression, I would set off a nuke to ensure that I could survive. Best environment for survival for me is in a POSTAPOCALYPTICWASTELAND *manic laughter*
i hope you didnt think about it to much. if the world was in a depression id wouldnt be able to afford it anyway.

Can anyone explain the differences between desert and wilderness?

The most informative, accurate answer will get best answer. Also the one with the most differences listed. Thx!Can anyone explain the differences between desert and wilderness?
Wilderness isn't necessarily desert, nor is desert always wilderness. ANY wild area, from dry, arid, sandy desert to dry arid, frozen icy desert of Antarctica and the Arctic, to the depths of Amazonia to high mountain ands in Asia, Europe, or the Americas can be wilderness. Yet, many desert areas are not wilderness, as evidenced by Las Vegas, Phoenix, Albuquerque, and many other highly populated desert areas. Amazonia also has significant, though concentrated, population areas, as do many mountainous regions.

Essentially a desert is an arid region, often sandy or rocky, with limited vegetation and animal life. A wilderness area is an area virtually uninhabited on a normal basis, an area of "wildness" less sullied by human activity.
Desert is full of sand only.

Wilderness can be any where. Can anyone explain the differences between desert and wilderness?

鈥搉oun 1. a wild and uncultivated region, as of forest or desert, uninhabited or inhabited only by wild animals; a tract of wasteland.

    2. a tract of land officially designated as such and protected by the U.S. government.

    3. any desolate tract, as of open sea.

    4. a part of a garden set apart for plants growing with unchecked luxuriance.

    5. a bewildering mass or collection.

so: desert=lots of sand and cactus

    wilderness=lots of trees, dirt
A desert can be, but need not be, a wilderness. A desert need not be sandy or hot, merely dry. The Arctic National Wildlife Refuge is a desert; so too is Los Angeles, California.

    Not all wildernesses are deserts.

One has nothing to do with the other. One concerns climatological conditions, the other concerns state of development/settlement or lack thereof.
like most people here, I am not particularly interested in getting "best answer"

the difference is clear from the definitions:

1 a : arid land with usually sparse vegetation; especially : such land having a very warm climate and receiving less than 25 centimeters (10 inches) of sporadic rainfall annually

1 a (1) : a tract or region uncultivated and uninhabited by human beings

    http://www.merriam-webster.com/

A desert is a hot place without much water and consequently, not much natural life. But, like in Phoenix Arizona, lots of people can live there is they bring in water

A wilderness is a place without people or the things of people.

It can be wet or dry. It can be cold or hot. It is just empty of people.
A desert is any place with very little rainfall. It can be uninhabited, and thus a wilderness, or it could contain bustling cities. It can even be a cold climate.

A wilderness is any large uninhabited place. It could be a desert, or a rain forest, or mountains, or any other geography.
A wilderness is simply a wild undeveloped natural area...

Forests, Deserts, Mountains, swamps, Tundra etc. etc

    can all be wilderness areas...
Deserts are generally, dry, barren and hot.

Wilderness can have almost any topography.

  • What does the last encounter in the wilderness of Jesus with Satan mean?

What does it symbolize? What does it mean actually? What does the last encounter in the wilderness of Jesus with Satan mean?
Pretty good answers by everyone so far but no one has hit the "Jackpot"!

Yes all what they say about temptation and beating the devil is right. But that is not what Jesus only teaches us.

Most people don't want to see this or ignore this but God knows they do.

What did Jesus go to do in the wilderness?

He went to fast! Why? Because when you can avoid temptation when you are weak, then when you are strong it will be a "piece of cake".

Jesus shows us that fasting and training your body you can come to control your temptations. Fasting is one of the most powerful weapons of a Christian. The only food is prayers to God. The relationship you build with Him is close to perfect at that time because He is your only contact when you pray.

Of course few people today see fasting as necessary but Jesus does.

Greek Orthodoxy is mocked because of the fasting cycle we have in our calendar. But this has made me strong day after day.

Prophets in the Old Testament and Saints have fasted not only a few days but 40 as Jesus. And when we say that Greek Orthodoxy fasts in very strict ways leaving more than half of the year meat free people think I am ridiculous. And that there are days that we don't eat even oil of any kind. When I say meat I mean all meat(Chicken, beef, fish, and anything that has blood in it). That would be very bad for Fast Food stores that rely on meat products only.

But who is going to listen to me? Who is going to listen to Jesus?

    God Bless
It means that Jesus's divine nature didn't keep Him from experiencing the same temptation we experience.

He had the same doubts that any human being has, and He was tempted to test God's love the same way we are. But He didn't because He knew that no proof could ever match God's love for us.What does the last encounter in the wilderness of Jesus with Satan mean?
He was put under severe temptation in order to prove he was fully man yet fully God at the same time.
It means that the world was in satan's hands and he was offering to Jesus , without dying the horrible death that awaited Him, If he just bowed down and worshiped Satan.
It shows us, as the bible teaches, that we do not have a high priest who has not been tempted (like we are tempted), that He indeed faced temptation...but was without sin.

This also shows us, as Christians, that the word of God is what we need to use against the enemy.

It also is an example of God's word being taken out of context. Satan said to Jesus, if you are the son of God, throw yourself down from this mountain, because His word says His angels have charge over you, that you will not even dash your foot against a stone.

Jesus answered, "you will not put the Lord your God to the test", but satan also left out an important part of the verse he quoted. The rest of it is that God will "keep you in all of your ways". That means, we are not to go around flinging ourselves under cars to see if God will save us or not.
it was to show the humanity of Jesus and to show that we too can resist temptation, through the word of God.
It means that if Jesus can handle it than so can you.

It also means that God is all fair and that He would not have you go through temptation if He (Jesus Christ) had not gone through it.
It defined the nature of Jesus' mission. It was not to be just about solving practical problems (bread), showing off (jumping) or taking control (kingdoms). It was to be about reconciling people to God.
I think that one of the lessons here is to notice that the devil used scripture to try and deceive. And trust me there are those who do this to this day.Christ first warning when asked what the last days would be like in Mark 13 was "Don't let man deceive." Also Amos 8:11 the famine in the in days is not for bread but for hearing the real word of God.The only way to know the real truth is to get into the bible chapter by chapter verse by verse http://www.shepherdschapel.com/index.cfm
It definitely showed who had the greatest authority. Three times Jesus said, "It Is Written," and 3 times Satan backed off. The Word of God is more powerful than the reigning authority, than gaining the whole world, than food, than popularity, than pleasure and definitely power.

    1. Man can't live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.

    2. Peer pressure or popularity is wrong - thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.

    3. Put no other gods before God - worship God and worship only God.

Bow down to nothing else. Serve only God for man shall not have 2 masters. Powers answer - you can have all of this if you will just do this. Choose man instead of God or better yet choose me said Satan.

Jesus knew He would soon crush the Devil's head so with great authority He told Satan to get away from Him.

In Canada`s boreal forest. How long could You Survive in the Wilderness?
You could live your whole life there.

That's what the settlers did. There's lots of food like fish and berries. You could even hunt for deer and set up rabbit snares.

You don't need a backpack. A lighter would be nice, but not necessary. How long could You Survive in the Wilderness?

There are plenty of opportunities to volunteer on projects, but the downside is that usually YOU have to pay THEM. If you want to get a job that will actually pay you, you will probably need a degree in some sort of environmental field or biology. What things distinguish human civilization from the wilderness in the Ramayana?

In the forests of the Ramayana lived lots of wild animals. That's what a WILDerness is, a place where wild animals live and civilization doesn't.

Human civilization is when humans have homes, government, society, rules, jobs, class systems, etc. We've come out of the wilderness and created something not found in nature.

What is the proper way to sleep on a hill in the wilderness? Feet goes up the slope or down?

Is there a north south east west preferred direction was well? What is the proper way to sleep on a hill in the wilderness? Feet goes up the slope or down?
Neither! You simply scrape out a shelf and lay crosswise to the slope. Head down is NEVER comfortable unless you like the feeling of blood running into and filling your head. And the alternative would be like sleeping sitting up which is a stress and strain on your back (spine) and butt. The ONLY logical solution is to create the shelf or platform where you can stretch out comfortably. I have never been on a mountain side hunting where I could not find a place suitable for making a shelf bed. I have spent more than a few nights sleeping "out" for the experience in survival situations without blanket of sleeping bags. GOOD sleep is critical to your survival and you should learn how to make the best of it in any situation. Trial and error will tell you REAL quick what is wrong with your sleeping suggestions. The shelf will save the day (or the night) for you. Be sure when you scrape out the impression for your body that you include more room for your hip and shoulder. In other words, try to make the shelf you are creating conform to the curvature of your body when laying on your side. If available, line the impression with a quantity of grass, tree leaves, etc. to help insulate you from the cold ground. And if there is enough of it, also consider acquiring enough of the leaves and grass to pull over yourself once you have snuggled in for the night. I learned from experience that sleeping (make that TRYING to sleep) when you are wet and cold will be the longest night of your life. There are too many GOOD options available to be sure we never have to experience that. My day pack ALWAYS includes the few necessities that will make my day and ESPECIALLY my night safe and warm and well fed. The time to think about your creature comforts is BEFORE you head for the woods or the mountains, and not AFTER you get there and find yourself in trouble or in need. Common sense and simple precautions are ALWAYS your best answer. Sleep well! What is the proper way to sleep on a hill in the wilderness? Feet goes up the slope or down?

In the online game runescape can you kill other players in the wilderness?

also if you can which world is the best to do it in?In the online game runescape can you kill other players in the wilderness?
on PVP worlds, jagex are also extending the minigame "bountyhunter" tyo cover the whole wilderness area, how they are gonna do it im not sure but it will happen shortley.

then you can wildy PK in every world

    HERE, check it

    Hi

A few weeks ago we removed the Bounty Hunter game from the Wilderness, but promised it would be coming back soon. I just wanted to quickly post to say that we鈥檙e working hard on the new, improved Bounty Hunter, and to tell you a little about it.

As many of you know, the Bounty Hunter minigame was really a temporary solution to the removal of PvP back in 2008. We really rushed the launch because of all the other projects we were working on at that time, and we therefore made a few design decisions that were not the best choices we have ever made. When we found a permanent solution with PvP worlds, we were determined to re-examine Bounty Hunter and make it the kind of game that we knew it could be. We鈥檙e really pleased that some of you like it as much as you do, and we鈥檙e keen to get it back to you as soon as we can.

So, here鈥檚 a little about one of the changes we鈥檝e made so far. Some of you have complained that the crater sizes are too small, and that the level grouping of players is unfair. The new Bounty Hunter minigame will take place across the entire Wilderness, using the existing Wilderness level bands to restrict how and where fighting takes place. This means that you鈥檒l have lots more room and, if you stick to the lower areas of the Wilderness, you鈥檒l know that your opponents will always be within a few combat levels of your own. If you think you can handle more risk, you will be able to encounter higher-level combatants simply by walking north. We will also be allowing players to use the bank and change equipment in Edgeville, but only Edgeville, and the Wilderness will be accessible from these Bounty Hunter PvP servers.

Obviously, with such a large area we鈥檙e rethinking how and when new bounty targets will be assigned; more information on that in the future.

We still can鈥檛 talk to you about launch dates because we simply don鈥檛 know how long it will take to get it right 鈥?and were not going to rush it out again. But we are working on it as we speak, and we will launch it as soon as it鈥檚 ready.
Yes, you can go on the pvp worlds. They have member worlds, and also non-member worlds! You cannot go on any regular world and kill in the wilderness anymore. In the online game runescape can you kill other players in the wilderness?

How did the writer know about Jesus and the Devil in the wilderness for days, when the writer wasn't there?

divine inspiration. or maybe Jesus told them while He was still alive. either way, same thing. the Bible is the inspired word of God.How did the writer know about Jesus and the Devil in the wilderness for days, when the writer wasn't there?
The Bible is inspired by God, by the Holy Spirit.

How did the writer know about Jesus and the Devil in the wilderness for days, when the writer wasn't there?

    1. The apostles and disciples traveled with Jesus for a little more than 3 years. Jesus teach them a lot of things during that time. That is applicable to Mathew and John.

    2. In the case of Mark, he traveled a lot with Peter (one of the apostles). He also spend time with many other apostles and disciples. Peter (and others) told Mark what they had seen and received from Jesus.

    3. In the case of Luke, he traveled a lot with Paul, visiting the churches at many cities, including visiting Jerusalem where he met and interviewed many of the apostles and other people that knew Jesus in person.

    4. Later, and this applies to all Bible writters, when they write down the gospels the Holy Spirit inspired them what to write.

How did the writer know about the flood story, when he or she wasn't on the boat?

    1. Noah and his sons told the flood story to their descendants. The story went through oral tradition from fathers to sons for generations until the times of Moses.

    2. The Holy Spirit inspired Moses what to write from all things Moses had heard, had seen, or knew from whatever other sources.
Good question. Or how did the writers know what went on when it was only Jesus and a prostitute at the well.

I guess Jesus had to tell them and they had to take his word for it. But if someone told me he went walking with the devil in the desert, i would need more proof than his word.

Then again, Christians don't need proof for anything apparently. What other group could you bilk 10% from with that story? How did the writer know about Jesus and the Devil in the wilderness for days, when the writer wasn't there?
There are two ways how this can be plausible:

-Jesus WAS there and Jesus used to speak to his disciples. So we come to know it today as they came to know it, through a dissemination of this story telling,

Also , Noah and his sons WERE there in the flood. Their sons told it to their sons etc. and in the same way this story reached to us today

    OR

-God is alive. God speaks. God was there in both those cases. So God told it to the writers.
2Ti 3:16 All scripture [is] given by inspiration of God, and [is] profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

    ......next

    %26lt;%26gt;%26lt;
how did the writer of revelation write about all the future events which are happening now when he existed in a different time ?
The same way the writer knew about Harry and Hermione in the woods; they made it up.
The Bible was inspired by God.

You really should learn about a subject before trying to discuss it.
Nothing in the book that fell from the sky is a first hand report.
    Great Question.

I assume that Jesus told the disciples.
The writers were instructed by God what they should write.
God told the person what to write.
Jesus told them as He said He would

How do u survive in the wilderness without hunting ?

Seeing since you are going to need licenses to hunt that are practically impossible to get is there any way you can survive without hunting ?

Without your gear getting way to heavy ? or stopping by a town every 4 days ?How do u survive in the wilderness without hunting ?
You don't have to eat meat you know. If I was starvin I would say freak a license in the first place. If you know which ones to eat (many are poisonous) then you can survive off of plants, mushrooms, and insects. However, you may need to find some bones of a dead animal to get the calcium out of it! That is what Rudolph did when he was hiding in the Mountains of N.Carolina! How do u survive in the wilderness without hunting ?
Uhh.... why would you WANT to do that? That is a next to impossible thing. It is like asking if you can breathe without having to inhale. I doubt the government would be strongly for someone going out into possibly posted territory to try and survive. But, yes. You CAN survive without hunting. Buy the S.A.S. Survival Handbook by John Wiseman, and it will answer your questions. You would need to forage for various plants a LOT because the survivor needs a very balanced diet.

How to keep clean in the wilderness?

If you don't have any modern technology. How would you stop from smelling, and fight off infection? How to keep clean in the wilderness?
Stay near a water source. It will provide u with a place to wash. Keeping things clean is key to fighting infection. Make sure to boil any water for cleaning cuts to prevent any parasites or bacteria that could be in the foreign water source.
For short-term exposures, such as weekend camping trips, using 'baby-wipes' may be enough.

Sometimes a generous amount of rubbing alcohol and a towel or two can be used for a wipe-on/wipe-off cleaning session. But rubbing alcohol shouldn't be used near the eyes, nose or mouth to avoid a stinging sensation or the inhalation of fumes.

If you want to use soap %26amp; water for a 'field shower' or to clean a wound, then be sure the water is purified beforehand.

For information about long-term wilderness or homesteading hygiene, I suggest further research on your own by reading books or visiting websites. How to keep clean in the wilderness?
anti-bacterial liquid soap, the best thing since, well, anti-bacterial bar soap. You can buy generic at the dollar store thats just as good as Dial %26amp; fill a canteen with the stuff, just be sure to clearly label it so you dont end up drinking it %26amp; ruining your trip. Put some on a sponge or rag %26amp; scrub yourself down. Really it doesnt matter much if your arms, legs %26amp; torso get nasty, the key is keeping your hands, feet, %26amp; privates (front %26amp; back) clean to prevent fungus, infection, %26amp; the spread of bacteria. %26amp; dont forget to bury your latrine leftovers.
Buy a survival book, i have one and it tells what kind of plants to look for that can help.
Well If you find water, you can wash with it. As for smell? Rub some pine oil from pine cones on you. You will now smell like a car air freshener.
If you are in the wilderness you are going to get dirty, and smelly.
Just man up. Just say upwind from your self and don't get hurt.

Where is the ultimate place to wilderness-camp in the United States?

Preferably based on your personal experience.

Any state, any time of year.Where is the ultimate place to wilderness-camp in the United States?
When you say 'wilderness camp' do you want something in the middle of nowhere or closer to places with population?

For middle of nowhere, i'd say either Alaska (Kobuk Valley National Park is awesome) or the Bitter Root Mountains in Wyoming. In both places you won't see anyone for days and depending on the exact spot, weeks on end.

For places with a little more people around (I personally don't like to go more than a day or so without seeing someone for safety reasons) I'd go with the Unitas in Utah, The High Sierras in California (Yosemite Nat Park, Ansel Adams Nat Wilderness, Sequoia-Kings Canyon Nat Park), MT Adams Nat Wilderness in Washington, or Glacier Nat Park in Montana.
There are many of places to camp in the U.S.

I would say the Black Hills in South Dakota.Where is the ultimate place to wilderness-camp in the United States?
I would have to agree with Matt.

The Black Hills in south dakota is beautiful.

How operates national parks, forests and wilderness areas?

Do you think is it Governor, Federal Government, Private Sector or something else. How operates national parks, forests and wilderness areas?
    National Parks - National Government

    State Parks - State Government

Wildlife areas - State Government. How operates national parks, forests and wilderness areas?
The national parks, forests and wilderness areas are under the Secretary of the Department of the Interior. The Interior Secretary is a presidental cabinet post; the incumbent is nominated by the President and confirmed by the Senate. The head of the National Parks is also confirmed by the Senate.

State parks, forests, and wilderness areas are similar in nature to the governance of the National scene but are under the authority of the governor of their respective state. I am not sure that the heads of state park services need to be confirmed by a legislative body.

Your question in effect is correctly stated since national parks are run by the National Park Service [20,000+ employees]; state - parks, forests, other natural wilderness - are most often run by appointees of their respective govenors.

I'm heading on a family vacation to the Wilderness resort this weekend. They're very famous for their waterparks and I want to know if they will allow me in there in a light t-shirt and shorts. I'm a little self-concious and I plan to have my bathing suit underneath that. Thanks!Swimsuit required at Wilderness Resort at Wisconsin Dells?
i think u can do that, i know how u feel and i like wearing shorts and shirt over my swimsuit.
You can wear clothes over your bathing suit into the park but not on any of the slides or anything. If you want to be covered up, I suggest you get some boy short bikini bottoms and wear them over a one piece swimsuit. Your swimsuit can't have plastic, metal, or any other type of ornamentation on it. You can wear a surf shirt, made of swim suit material over your swimsuit on slides with tubes and in pools, but not on body slides.Swimsuit required at Wilderness Resort at Wisconsin Dells?

Just wear the swimsuit. I guarantee you that there will be much fatter people wearing much skimpier clothing than you.

No, they can attack you at any time. Though sometimes they overlook your character and dont attack you.

If you had gotten closer to the gate it might have noticed you %26amp; attacked. You were probably just outside it's range since it had a gate blocking it.

There are lots of areas in NY where you can camp for free, especially in the Adirondack park. They even have free lean-tos with a cooking circle. Aside from the Adirondacks there are state forests that allow camping. In general it is frowned upon for you to make campfires except in extablished areas since there is always a risk of starting a fire. You have to check with each state park system for fees, but in NY there is plenty of free camping. State parks will normally charge, but forests will not.
yes there are allot of places to camp in NY state and outside of Boston, but i live very close to DC and to the best of myknowledgee there are no places to camp in DC but there are many places to camp in Maryland and Virgina. if you were to attempt to camp illegally the worst that will happen in a fine and if it is in DC i am sure you will have to answer allot of questions of why your trying to camp there. Some places in DC i would not want to camp anyway south east and north west DC are not the safest places to be any way let alone to camp.Is it Illegal to camp in the wilderness in New York state? or any of the States inbetween Boston and DC?
In New York State much of the "wilderness" is private property, so if you have permission from the property owners there should be no problem. On state land camping is permitted, with certain regulations. Here is a link to the NY Dept. of Environmental Conservation with more specific info. http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/7872.html
No I don't think so, unless you are on someone else's property. You might want to call the fish and game commission and make sure the area you are going isn't a wildlife reserve or something similar. I grew up in PA in Erie and you aren't allowed to camp down on the peninsula, so i'm sure there are many other places that belong to the government that you can't camp, but there's a lot land from Boston to DC so you're bound to find a place that is non charging and isn't a juvenile camping area....

i'd call the fish and game commission or the department of environmental conservation.
As long as you are not on private property (in which case you could be subject to being a trespasser) and not in a restricted area (like near Camp David) there most likely would be of little consequence.

However, there is very little area left in the northeast that is not private property. Even mountains and forest are privately owned.

Would you get charged for murder if you killed and ate your friend for survival in the wilderness?

Could you get convicted? What if you kept them alive and only ate their arm/leg?Would you get charged for murder if you killed and ate your friend for survival in the wilderness?
This actually went to court in the UK a long time ago (the case was called "R v Dudley and Stevens"). The accused had been shipwrecked and ate their cabin boy to survive.

They were still convicted because the argument that their actions were necessary for their survival implied that their life was somehow more important than the cabin boy, which the law wasn't going to allow (this is true in most other places). They were convicted of murder, but only served six months.
Necessity could be a defense for eating a CORPSE, but not for the actual killing.

Would you get charged for murder if you killed and ate your friend for survival in the wilderness?
Yes you would be charged with murder. You can justify killing someone else to save yourself if they aren't the reason you are in danger. (And I mean directly attacking you.)

If just eating part of them, you would still be charged with assault, battery, maiming. And you would be sued as well. And you would be charged with cannibalism. How do you think you would not be charged?

If they died and then you ate them, it might be different.

I suggest you take a class in wilderness survival so it wont' come to that.
Well,it would be different if they were already dead.the pilgrim did eat other people and dig them out of their grave and eat them.so it might be murder if you killed them and you would like need permission or something to just eat a body part from them.or it would be like abuse.
That's a real good question! I don't know, if that was ever a real case than it would definitely be very controversial!

Which areas of Siberia does the snowy wilderness cover?

can someone give me a map which shows how much the snowy wilderness covers in siberia?Which areas of Siberia does the snowy wilderness cover?
The Verkhoyansk Range was extensively glaciated in the Pleistocene, but the climate was too dry for glaciation to extend to low elevations. At these low elevations are numerous valleys, many of them deep, and covered with larch forest except in the extreme north, where tundra dominates.

...Which areas of Siberia does the snowy wilderness cover?
Knowing continental weather, I would say "all of it". Take any map and color Siberia white... but most of the snowfall is in the northwest.
