while He taught us the "Our Father" prayer, the scripture says that He would go to the wilderness and spend all night praying. How would one spend hours praying? What would you say? How would you pray? Would you just listen? Any thoughts would be helpful.
Atheists with snide comments need not apply. Take your thoughts to the next question. How did Jesus pray when He spent all night in the wilderness or days in the desert?
God the Father is His Father and they are very close, so it is a Father/Son relationship, a family time, a worship. I was at a Catholic class where they were doing contemplative prayer in silence, and this may have been part of it. Sister Mother Teresa mentions it in her book, "No Greater Love." It's a time of meditation, meekness, faith, love, seeking God's will/voice for you. a prayer without words -- clear mind, silence, seeking God. The Catholics were using this Bible verse to start the meditation:
from Psalm 46:10 (a)
"...鈥淏e still, and know that I am God..."
then says, "Be still and know that I am."
then, "Be still and know."
then. "Be still."
The group leader speaks that and not the people meditating.
They said to do this 20 minutes 2 times a day, but i think contemplative prayer can be developed to become a lifestyle of meditation throughout the day, and then it's like the nun's vow of silence, except you could talk when the Holy Spirit needs you to or when spoken to by others. Then, when you speak, and think it's more spiritual and holy.
My guess on what Jesus may have done --- pray about it all.How did Jesus pray when He spent all night in the wilderness or days in the desert?
Scripture does not elaborate - but it says he prayed so hard that he sweated huge drops of blood.
Luk 22:44 And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground.
