How do you get through the Wilderness without getting slaughtered?

I'm trying to go through the Wilderness and I'm always dying. Can anybody help me?How do you get through the Wilderness without getting slaughtered?
If your playing runescape,then there are too many people to run through so you might want to have nothing on you character and run/walk through the wilderness in the unpopulated areas like the sides of the wilderness.
