My BA is in theater and I have been working as a wilderness trail guide for 7 years. Is it better to get a Psychology degree, MSW or is there an option I haven't thought of yet?I want to work as a therapist in a wilderness setting. What is the best degree and how do I obtain it?
Psychology is the best choice. Your theater training helps you be more outgoing and perhaps better with people, but therapy requires more expertise. Not just anyone can be a therapist.
Quality wilderness programs require certification or licensing, and a degree is generally required to obtain either. I think your love for the outdoors, your ability to present yourself to others, and a good foundation in psychology would make you a great choice for any good wilderness program.
