The Colonists were what is called the "United Church of Christ" today; nic named "Congregational".
But it was much stricter then. If someone was caught or even believed doing a sin they were put in wooden frame they made with with hands and feet in the front and all else behind.
Lots of people in Mass. believed witches were real and if any one even hinted that they suspected someone was a witch, they were burned at a stake! Roger Williams and his followers in Rhode Island became Famous for going over to Mass. to rescue these people accused of being witches.
