It is about the wilderness and we need to make an ethical argument in favor of wilderness preservation. How should I start writing this paper?
Thank you for your help! What should I write my wilderness paper about?
Firstly you need to define wilderness, there are very few places that have not been shaped by man at some point, through forest clearing, land burning etc.
Once defined then the reason for protection needs to be clear, is it an open space, of scientific importance, are there environmental reason why it should be preserved?
Untouched wildernesses such as mountain faces, remote locations that have never offered advantages to man will to the larger degree still remain as such. for there is no reason to encroach, those lands that are of value for various reasons, mining, expansion, transport routes etc.. need to be taken in consideration to the value they offer for development against the value to leave alone and the alternatives that can be found.
It's all very well saying protect wilderness but if you look around you will note that most of our big cities, farms, holiday destinations, shopping centres and all of the things we take for granted where once wildernesses. You need to strike a balanced argument.
I would focus on one particular wilderness site, state why it is wilderness, what changes have happened to it in it;s history, who lived there what did they do to it. Ask why this should be preserved, ask why it is threatened and what are the alternatives to this.
.
The earth's biota is disappearing at an alarming rate across the globe, and protected areas play a critical role in preserving plant and animal species from extinction. National and State Parks and Forests, Wilderness Areas, Indian and Military Reservations, and National Wildlife Refuges are all tools to help preserve biological diversity. In cooperation with conservation planning, to determine protection status; wilderness selection and design; climate change research; and a wide variety of other environmental studies intended to augment the protection provided by existing of wilderness areas, the establishment of new wilderness areas can do much to preserve bio-resources which otherwise would cease to exist.
The recreation motivation for creating wilderness areas can be summarized as follows. Non-motorized and motorized winter visitors of our National Forests travel at dramatically different speeds and seek different experiences from their visit. Mixing these groups creates experiential, aesthetic, and safety incompatibilities.Historically steeper, unroaded slopes, ridges, and bowls were places where non-motorized users could naturally separate and recreate without the need of designated non-motorized areas.
Today, however, skiers and snowshoers are increasingly discovering that even if they travel far, they are likely to find themselves competing directly with snowmobiles on mountain slopes, ridges, and alpine bowls, as well as on roads, in meadows, and in forests. Advances in snowmobile technology means that, each year, more terrain can be visited quickly and frequently by snowmobiles. With the capabilities of modern snowmobiles no longer creating a natural separation, there鈥檚 a modern need for the USFS to facilitate separation by designating new non-motorized areas.
Good luck finishing this paper. What should I write my wilderness paper about?
well there is this debate going on recently about some pro gun control people stating that the federal government should not have the right to ban any kind of hunting. these restrictions include certain species, certain areas, and certain times of the year. They state that it takes away from their rights. Some even argue that no land should be closed off as "landmarks" and all land should be able to be used by everyone.
It is an interesting debate once you really research it
Here's how I think you should start your paper. (Deer lay in leaves, basking in sunlight. Birds twitter and chirp, singing their happy songs. Why would anyone want to disturb them? Let them live in peace, as we do. No need for cruelty...)
