What is the most effective way to avoid bug bites in the wilderness?

I eat 2-3 plantain pods daily (natural repellant), and I have plenty of deep woods off and other products. I am going deep wilderness camping in July. My main concern is mosquitoes and ticks. I wonder if my dogs spot on tick repellant is safe or effective on humans. Also I will be carring a mosquto net to incorporate into my hand made shelter. Any other suggestions? What is the most effective way to avoid bug bites in the wilderness?
I do several things to protect myself from bug bites, and the combination proves mostly effective. but, in honesty, I don't think any method is 100% effective. I love garlic, so I eat a lot of it! even on my trek into the woods or on a hike over the Pacific Crest Trail. Wear long sleeved shirts in light colors, along with long pants, and a hat. You may be much warmer but, bugs cant bite you through your clothing. I also carry with me a repellent called "Ben's 100 Max Formula tick and insect repellent". It's 98.11% deet and gets sprayed on all my clothing. I use the 50% or 25% on my skin. It lasts 10 hours and I don't apply it under my clothing. I pay about $6.00 for a bottle and get it from a local surplus and outdoor store. Here is the information for the repellent.
Yeah buy a house and quit living in the woods. What is the most effective way to avoid bug bites in the wilderness?
Discovery Channel recommends covering yourself in mud. I guess if everything else fails and you get DESPERATE , that would work. .
Skin-So-Soft from Avon works. It smells like heck but it works. Rub some of that oil on you. Get the original kind. It works great!
The best way to not get bitten in the woods is to not go in the woods at all. but hell, the OFF spray is good.
I put a DEET based product on my clothes and in my hair... I use the most powerful stuff I can find [Military Surplus stores].

Starting a fire and putting some green wood on it [making smoke].....
DEET is the strongest product, but it is purely poison, so I don't recommend it.

The next best option is to use Avon Skin-so-Soft.

The next best thing would be to get a more "natural" bug spray from a natural foods store - almost as effective as DEET, but non-toxic.

Next I would tie Bounce Dryer Sheets near your face - it repels bugs - either tie to the top of backpack straps, have them hanging down from your hat, etc.

ExOfficio sells clothes, socks, hats and bandanas that have bug repellent somehow worked into the fabric - the line if called "Buzz Off".

Garlic is another supplement I recommend starting to take right now.

Mosquito next couldn't hurt! (They even make mini ones that just go over your head, and cost about $2.)
