Trying to remember a book title, its about a child that gets lost in the wilderness and has to survive?

this kid either gets lost or leaves home and survives in the wilderness, maybe in the Appalachian mountains? not sure. he finds a big old tree that is hollow inside and he lives in it as his home. he lives off the land and i think he has a hawk as a companion. can anyone help me find the title of this book?Trying to remember a book title, its about a child that gets lost in the wilderness and has to survive?
