Yes I am a wilderness survival fanatic. I have watched almost all the movies, all the documentary shows and reality shows like Man vs Wild, Extreme Survival. Read a lot of books. I want to now put me through a little bit of those. Like going into hiking trails and try to build fire without matches or build makeshift shelters or drink out of natural resources found in trails. I haven't decided about eating part.
What is your opinion ?Should I test my wilderness survival skills a little bit?
You should be fine as long as you have a camera man and production crew with you like on all those documentaries.
Hiking is common pastime done by millions annually. You can learn how to build a fire without matches in your backyard, but check local laws before going into the wilderness as some places don't allow open fires. Building a shelter disturbs the environment, so again make sure that is legal where you are. As for drinking out of natural resources found on trails, be very careful. Understand what pollutants, toxins, parasites, and microbes might be entering your body and take proper precautions with the right water purification equipment. Have emergency water handy.
And whatever you are doing make sure people know where you are, how long you will be, and what you are doing so you don't have to cut your own arm off with a dull pocket knife.
You state you have watched "almost all of the movies". Would probably be best if you waited until you saw all the movies, then you would have even more bad information. What you see on t.v. and the movies is just that, on t.v. and in the movies, it's not real, it's staged or pure fabrication to begin with. The old frontiersmen didn't go off into the wilderness with nothing, they carried many pounds of equipment and supplies. They even cheated and used things like matches to start fires. These were people who were raised under primitive conditions and were used making do with what they had. Even the Indians would starve and suffer in a bad year with all the tools, experience and manpower a tribe could muster.
It seems you have never been camping before, start out simple. For your first trip, make it a car camping trip and take all the gear and supplies you will need. Doing what you describe is a learned skill and takes time and experience to develop.Should I test my wilderness survival skills a little bit?
So long as you remain close to a vehicle in case of emergency, build fires intelligently so you don't start a forest fire and be prepared in case the shelter isn't what you hoped go ahead. Make sure someone knows where you are or better yet bring a person who will be using conventional gear (like Bear Grylls did) to help you if you need it. Don't go too overboard and you will be fine.
I would defo! Can't beat abit of bear grylls!!
