Fort Wilderness Cabins at Disney World - Can you share your experience with me?

My family is going to stay at the cabins at Fort Wilderness over the Christmas break this year. We DO NOT have little children, though one of my sons is autistic (Age 18 - loves characters!).

Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated - things worth doing in Fort Wilderness itself? Suggestions for optimal transportation to Disney theme parks? Should I try to ask for a cabin near the marina transportation?Fort Wilderness Cabins at Disney World - Can you share your experience with me?
The nightly campfire is hosted by Chip and Dale. The Hoop-Dee-Doo Review Dinner Show (music/comedy show - no characters) is on the grounds. Also there is Mickey's Backyard BBQ. It is outside, so could be cold in Dec. It is also pretty chaotic. My son enjoyed it, but was mentally exhausted by the end. He is 7 and also on the Autism Spectrum. There is a boat that goes directly from the Fort Wilderness Resort to the Contemporary Resort, so it is very easy access for a meal at Chef Mickey (if you can get a reservation). The Fort Wilderness Resort is also the only place that you can rent a canoe (pretty reasonably too).

Here is a map of Fort Wilderness. You can decide if you want to request a location close to the entrance, bus station, pool, etc. Use the number to make the request. Example: Say you would prefer the 2500 cabins.

There's transportation all around the resort and to the parks, so I wouldn't necessarily worry about that. There's several things to do at Fort Wilderness. You can rent bikes, pedal boats, kayaks, fishing equipment, surrey bikes. Shuffleboard equipment is free. There's tennis, a free petting zoo, playgrounds. There is a free campfire with movie each night, which is really neat. There are guided horseback rides. There are carriage rides.

So in other words, there's plenty to do if you want to take a day or two off the parks and just stay at Fort Wilderness. You might want to check this out: http://allears.net/acc/faq_fw.htmFort Wilderness Cabins at Disney World - Can you share your experience with me?
I have not personally stayed at the cabins, though my friends have and loved them. I have been to the campgrounds though and i loved it. there is horse back riding, nightly campfires and sing alongs, a petting zoo , hay rides, etc. You must go to the Hoop de Do Review , especially if your son loves characters. Book it now ! It's dinner and a show, alot of fun.

There are buses and boats that leave from the campground that take you to the parks, you won't need to worry about transportation from the campground.

You are going to have a great time !!!! I'm envious.
