Any president of the united states.Which united states president is the most likely to win in a wilderness survival challenge?
Teddy Roosevelt, for sure. He was the ultimate outdoors-man!
George Washington.Which united states president is the most likely to win in a wilderness survival challenge?
Teddy Roosevelt.
Roosevelt was an avid outdoors man.
The longer ago the better. If you're talking about 20th century presidents, I would go with Teddy Roosevelt.
Reagan
Pretty much even after the Secret Service was charged with safeguarding the Presidents life.
sorry, but ... WHAT?
Teddy Roosevelt, he was an outdoorsman.
In the 20th century, I think you've got to go with Teddy Roosevelt, but he was more show than substance.
For the 19th century, I'd go with Andrew Jackson.
Hands down it would be Theodore Roosevelt
Roosevelt...I think he actually went on a safari in Africa at one point, if my trivia knowledge doesn't fail me.
Theodore Roosevelt - he was an advid outdoorsman and hunter.
Teddy Roosevelt by a mile. Go study some history.
john f kennedy...........he already did it once when his PT boat got blown out of the water in wwII
Probably Teddy Roosevelt.

Should a guy wear boxers or briefs when going out into the wilderness?
My wife and I are planning on doing some primitive backwoods camping and I was wondering if I should wear boxers or briefs on this outing. Boxers are cool and comfortable, but can cause chafing and irritation in particular areas. But, briefs can be constricting and don't breathe as well as boxers, which can also cause chafing in other areas. I'm kinda hefty if it makes any difference. 5'11" 230lbs.
Any ideas or suggestions?Should a guy wear boxers or briefs when going out into the wilderness?
Oversize boxers. I used briefs in an extended hiking/ camping trip and wound up having to go without because of the seams digging in places they should not have. The briefs, oversized did very well to not irritate anything.
I would have to say boxers only because, You can use them as shorts, You can rinse them out, or swim in them, and they dry out fast, and also if you will be away from a shower you want something that gives you airflow. 100% cotton is the only way to go because it's the only fabric that really breathes. Plus guys look kinda cute when they jump out of the tent to grab something and they are wearing nothing but boxers and hiking boots not laced!- MollyShould a guy wear boxers or briefs when going out into the wilderness?
What ever is most comfortable for you. Use some baby powder, it`ll make all the difference. How about boxer briefs? They also make underwear for hiking, I know ex officio makes them, the briefs are high breathable and light and the boxers are really light and comfortable.

Considering you'll be outdoors, then I would suggest briefs.
Not because of comfort but because you don't want anything going up your trousers and biting you.
Hanes boxer briefs are very nice along with the Under armor short boxer brief. Stay away from jockey brand!! very uncomfortable.
Either one is just as good. boxers are comfortable. Both are good for toilet paper if you run out.
ROFLMAO
Boxers. In a pinch they can double as shorts.
I always go commando.
Invest in boxer briefs. They combine the best of both worlds.
Buy a man- skirt and go commando for crying out loud
I would get good shorts and go Commando
Your choice, but if you can find any that are NON Cotton.
Those are hard to find for men and can be expensive, but well worth it.
Look for the word "Dry" as in 'stay-dry' or something.
I get my Russell Stay-Dry socks at Costco 13 bucks for 12 pair. - - Cheap!
I wear them summer and winter, they wear well and are super soft.
On a backpack we got caught in some late spring snow, my shoes and socks were SOAKED, I should have had icicles for feet.
I didn't know they were even wet, until I went to bed!

How do we know there aren't terrorists in remote places like the Amazon and Alaskan and Canadian wilderness?
I cannot stress enough that I AM NOT one of those paranoid bigots that think terrorists are hiding around every corner. I'm just curious as to what ways governments can know what goes on in remote in regards to terrorist training and attack preparation. How do we know there aren't terrorists in remote places like the Amazon and Alaskan and Canadian wilderness?
How do we know there aren't terrorists in the line at the grocery store next to us? How are we sure they are not working in our factories? Maybe they are all hiding in beach resorts on the east coast?
Come on is this really a serious question?
I hear you, it's disturbing that dudes like Mohammed Atta were cruising the strip in FLL. And there are highly secretive "training camps" such as Islamberg in the Catskills. Who knows how many more. How do we know there aren't terrorists in remote places like the Amazon and Alaskan and Canadian wilderness?
Because less Muslims in that mentions areas. Terrorist are referred to Muslims only.
If there are two in my basement right now, then they could be anywhere!!
Paranoid? Me thinks not...

Is there any source in the wilderness one could use for oxygen supplementation?
This is a survival question. If persons were in the wilderness without access to medical equipment and needed oxygen supplementation, is there any source possibly available in the wilderness that would be of some help.
An example of what I am asking is if persons were to hike to a very high altitude, get Acute Mountain Sickness and were unable to come back down to a level with more oxygen in the air, would there be anything such as a plant et.. they could use that would help their oxygen level in the blood or/or lungs. Is there any source in the wilderness one could use for oxygen supplementation?
Only in Sci-Fi, I think

In runescape, how safe is the wilderness agility course from pkers?
I was going to start training there and any advice or tips would be very much appreciated. Also what Is the best way to get there? Thanks in advance for all answers. In runescape, how safe is the wilderness agility course from pkers?
Well, i'm one of those people that love to train on the wildy agility course. When the wilderness reverted to a pk'ing format I kinda assumed that I'd never set foot up there again. However I tried it and I still love to train up there.
"Safe" is a matter of opinion. Will you get pk'ed? Maybe. Maybe not. So what? Agility doesn't require you to bring any weapons or armor. You're much better off without them anyways. Take 3 items with you and if you are killed, it's no big deal.
Personally I've found the place to be safer without the revs than it was in the past. I've been killed occasionally by pk'ers but also made friends with others that are running the course as well. You can also keep an eye out and if you see someone skulled enter the course just hop worlds. They like to hide on the other side of the tunnel or stand at the entrance to the course. I can usually stay for an hour or 2 without any troublemakers approaching.
I'll bring a spottier cape, boots of lightness and a Dragon Dagger p++ hidden up my sleeve.
Supposedly there isn't much threat (according to my friends and other members in my clan) out there as it is often rather quiet. I found that others you might see running the course are quite friendly. But the few times I went there I kept getting chased and killed by PK'ers that like to hide around there, so I gave up and trained somewhere else. I reccomend that you go with a maximum of three items (if any) so you don't lose anything if you're killed. (obviously DON'T go to a high risk wilderness world) so in conclusion I wouldn't reccomend it but you may as well try it, you might like it! @(^-^)@In runescape, how safe is the wilderness agility course from pkers?
as someones already said u dont lose anything if your smart.just turn auto retaliate off bring 3 good items (penance horn cape n boots of lightness) and a lil food. even if u do get pkd all u lose is your food as long as u dont hit them back.hence y u turn auto retaliate off lol
It's not safe, people can attack you in the course, although it's usually quiet you do run the risk of being attacked.
People can attack you :( I learnt that the hard way .. i died aha . so in my opinion it is not safe.florida drivers license ski doo

there was this one, i'm so sad, i never saw it and forgot the title. it was about two friends who used to tramp in the wilderness together, and they go on a trip years later, and one has matured "beyond these silly treks", and the other is still a wilderness hippy. it was supposed to have great cinematography of oregon/washington, indie type film that i found at blockbuster. big help i know. into the wild is really a great film.

How would you survive in the wilderness for 40 days?
Without weapons for hunting, without a tent and blankets for warmth, without any sign of social civilization or vegetation to eat, how would you spend those days to survive?
Jesus did it! And I probably could to, although I only lasted ten days before I died! How would you survive in the wilderness for 40 days?
Yes I could, But Then I did train with the SF and spent 20 years in the Service, Weapons ? I can Make weapons, Tent ? Blanket ? Can with some effort provide adequate protection.
Just thought of something, How many people here actually watch Discovery Channel's Survivor man or Man Vs Wild ? He actually has good advice in survival Techniques.
You died? OH NO!!!How would you survive in the wilderness for 40 days?
"although I only lasted ten days before I died!"
Well go out and do it again, it clearly didn't work the first time.
He was probably the reincarnation of an aborigine, man can those guys take the heat.
LOL ok wow
Well, i already live out in the hills.
I have a first aid kit and training, i know how to start a fire without matches, i know how to sleep out under the stars, i know how to make a roof from branches and bark, know how to fish and also have enough of a knowledge of plants to know what i can and can't eat.
I kid you not
He didn't eat in those 40 days. He just drank water.
I would do poorly I am afraid
Make a bivouac shelter out of pine boughs and brush.
Forage for edible roots, berries, herbs, etc.
Make snares out of root fibers to catch small game.
Purify water using grass/stone filters.
Create fire using hardwood/chaff method.
You would hunt and forage for anything edible. During the Dark Ages, people actually ate dirt in order to fill their stomachs. But if you should happen to eat the wrong plant or mushroom, you might think that a spirit was talking to you, or see a staff turn into a serpent. Sound familiar?
Lots and lots of sunblock.
I'm quite confident that I could take care of myself in the wilderness. I could create the necessary tools and shelter, make fire, etc.
Please offer my sincerest condolences to your survivors.
I am a fully healthy and capable former Marine, I've passed month long survival courses which gave me literally nothing but a compass, my clothes, and a destination.
I'm quite sure I could push it another ten days.
It's not easy to compare someone like Jesus to a human. The only comparison to human was his physical body. So, not being human, his capabilities were far beyond that of humans.

How do you make a fire in the wilderness?
Ok i know how to make a fire in the wilderness but how come mine isnt working i went outside in my backgarden got 2 sticks cut a big hole in one and surrounded it with dry straw and rub the other stick with both my hands
what am i doing wrongHow do you make a fire in the wilderness?
Fire-Plow
The fire-plow is a friction method of ignition. You rub a hardwood shaft against a softer wood base. To use this method, cut a straight groove in the base and plow the blunt tip of the shaft up and down the groove. The plowing action of the shaft pushes out small particles of wood fibers. Then, as you apply more pressure on each stroke, the friction ignites the wood particles.
Bow and Drill
The technique of starting a fire with a bow and drill is simple, but you must exert much effort and be persistent to produce a fire. You need the following items to use this method:
Socket. The socket is an easily grasped stone or piece of hardwood or bone with a slight depression in one side. Use it to hold the drill in place and to apply downward pressure.
Drill. The drill should be a straight, seasoned hardwood stick about 2 centimeters in diameter and 25 centimeters long. The top end is round and the low end blunt (to produce more friction).
Fire board. Its size is up to you. A seasoned softwood board about 2.5 centimeters thick and 10 centimeters wide is preferable. Cut a depression about 2 centimeters from the edge on one side of the board. On the underside, make a V-shaped cut from the edge of the board to the depression.
Bow. The bow is a resilient, green stick about 2.5 centimeters in diameter and a string. The type of wood is not important. The bowstring can be any type of cordage. You tie the bowstring from one end of the bow to the other, without any slack.
To use the bow and drill, first prepare the fire lay. Then place a bundle of tinder under the V-shaped cut in the fire board. Place one foot on the fire board. Loop the bowstring over the drill and place the drill in the precut depression on the fire board. Place the socket, held in one hand, on the top of the drill to hold it in position. Press down on the drill and saw the bow back and forth to twirl the drill. Once you have established a smooth motion, apply more downward pressure and work the bow faster. This action will grind hot black powder into the tinder, causing a spark to catch. Blow on the tinder until it ignites.
use a match. How do you make a fire in the wilderness?
You can learn this from a good Scout Leader, Girl or Boy Scouts. Or you can go to some scouting pages and see what they teach. I recommend using a flint to spark your tinder first.
But starting it isn't your only concern, maintaining, and putting it out are. There is a whole lot more to it than getting a flame. Anyone can start a fire, but did you prepare properly? Are you going to be able to keep it under control? Will you scorch the ground or did you use an existing pit or build one up yourself? Look at REIs webpage on fire-building and Leave No Trace to get more info.
By the way flints are found in nature so its not cheating and it will amaze you when you figure out how to do it.
Making fire with rubbing two sticks together using friction is no piece of cake, if you let up for even a few seconds to rest, you lost it. Bring matches, or a couple of lighter with you whenever you anticipate going into the wilderness.
waterproof strike on anything matches!!
You should get a tinderbox.
Are the sticks of very dry dead wood (any sign of green means you have no chance)
It takes a lot of friction to make the sticks heat up so it might be easier if you take a shoelace and make a bow (as in bow and arrow).
twist your stick into the string so you can use the bow like a saw to turn your stick .
hold the top of your stick with a stone so you can keep constant pressure on it , and saw away .
a box of matches or a lighter
Ha ha, how cute! Ever heard of a lighter? It's not that hard to take it with you into any forest.
Cowboys used a piece of metal that looks something like brass knuckles - A piece of rope and a flint rock. The piece of metal has cross hatch marks on the outside. A metal file will work. unravel some rope and make a nest out of it. The old style rope. Strike the flint rock against the file so that the hot pieces land in the rope nest . blow on it to get it going You must have a pile of little twigs ready. Please be careful with FIRE you know but I have to say it anyway Always make sure your fire is OUT before you leave no hot coals Be careful have fun leave only footprints take only pictures
Happy Caving Carroll
I use a jet Boil stove to cook with while camping
well you can use the bow and drill method.
whats the dry straw for?
all you do is take 4 pieces of wood.
1. long bendy stick about 3 feet long which you form into a bow with string.
2. a flat piece of wood with a shallow circular hole cut in it.(not all the way through)
3. a flat piece of wood similar to 2 but with a deeper narrower hole.
4. a round piece of stick that is blunt at one end and pointed at the other.
now put part 2 on the ground and put your foot on it.
then take your bow (1) and twist (3) into it
putting the blunted end of (3) intio the hole in (2) you take piece (4) and put the pointed end in the hole.
using your leg to keep steady push down on the top of you spindle and start bowin
smooth at first then quicker and it will soon begin to smoke.
then you remove the bottom piece and cut a notch in it (about a tenth of the circle)
then begin to bow again.
soon it will smoke and dust will begin to fill the notch.
once full and smouldering carefully add it to your tinder(dry grass, birch bark, cotton ball)
and blow on it.
best of luck and keep practising.
Hand`s won`t do it.Make a bow from a branch.Rip a piece of clothe from you`re garment and make a slim cord.Tie this to bow as if to make an indian shooting bow.Next ,make a twist around the straight stick you plan to use with center of cord.Hold stick at top with small rock, using pressure, then begin a sawing motion with the bow. This will spin fast enough to cause enough friction to start the fire. The best way is to keep a 9 volt battery(little square one) with some steel wool handy.Touch them together at point of battery contact`s and you have fire.
Ever hear of matches?
If your question is how to make a fire without matches. Try a different method.
1) Find flint, either natural or ought from store. A steel (knife or other) struck on the flint produces sparks that can set fire to tinder (dry wood shavings, leaves or grass).
2) By friction, you need to make friction. That is hard for most.
Try it by making a bow. Tie a taut string to the ends of a stick so it doesn;t get loose (notch the stick end). Cross a straight stick to the bow and twist the string around the stick in a loop. Moving the box will mow twist the stick. Hold the stick in a dry log surrounded by tinder. How the top of stick down with a stone or wood with a notch. Use pressure to puch the turning stick down. The twist and pressure makes friction over a minute or two and it is easier for you to twist it. When the fristion smokes a lot. Be sure the tinder is burning and add sticks when it does. WHen the sticks burn, add larger wood then logs to burn.
Be sure the fire area is clear and surrounded by stones or a fire break so the woods don;t burn. Don;t start fires in dry fire hazard areas
If you're planning a trip into the wilderness, for day hiking or backpacking, you should personally carry a lighter or waterproof matches, and an emergency magnesium fire starter (among other things). This is basic survival equipment. If you can't afford it, don't know where to get it, or aren't allowed to have it, then you simply must not go hiking.
The method you describe for starting a fire, as seen in "Cast Away" probably won't work in real life, and would result in a hand full of blisters. The method used in Outward Bound programs as seen in that "Brat Camp" reality TV show is to use one's shoelace as a bow, wrapped around a stick held by a carved top hand block of wood, with a carved board underneath, plenty of tinder, and lots of smoky blowing when an ember is finally formed. I haven't tried that myself, but it looks like it works for them time and again.
make sure your uesing the right wood (bow chca bow wow) my creds 2 church
This method takes a long time and you need the right kind of wood and tinder and a small hole in the timber and a pointed end on one stick and a bow contraption with string wrapped around your turning stick to increase it's spinning speed and even then it takes ages !
use a match or lighter works easier we have gone past those days
Take matches and use dry wood. Start with dry leaves/small twigs and gradually increase the size of the twigs until the fire is going well.
Just because you have two sticks doesn't mean you'll start a fire! You need to cause enough friction between the sticks to raise the temperature of your tinder above its ignition point. The bottom stick should be a flat piece of wood perhaps 3 inches wide by 12 inches long with a small, round depression carved into the center, while the second piece should be about fifteen inches or more long and 3/4 inch diameter, with the lower one inch carved to a blunt point. Put the pointed end into the depression and turn the round stick with your flat palms as hard and as quickly as you can to generate heat. You'll begin to see smoke when friction begins to heat the blunt, pointed end. Place the tinder next to the stick at this point, with a small piece of the tinder UNDER the stick and continue to turn it as hard as you can.

twist your stick into the string so you can use the bow like a saw to turn your stick .
hold the top of your stick with a stone so you can keep constant pressure on it , and saw away .
a box of matches or a lighter
How would someone survive in the wilderness?
I am doing a survival guide for school and I need to include how one would make shelter, food, tools, and how they would deal with animals. How would someone survive in the wilderness?
Your question is too open ended. WHICH type of wilderness? Desert, mountains, tropical rainforest, Australian outback, ect. So many types of environments. Each and every single one requires very different skills, and knowledge.
Doing one thing in one type of environment (like traveling at night in a moonlit desert to conserve water) would get you killed in another environment (like walking at night in the mountains where you might fall off a cliff or get eaten by a predator).
So WHICH environment?

Im now 24 and retired... Cut the bullshit basicly survival is common sence, iff you want to find out why dont you get your mother to drive you to the middle of nowhere and dump you there and then see what you will do... You will survive, Learn to live with natural enviroment. Because you are a Human, A Mammel. One of the best hunters on this planet...
All i have to say, Theres your answer =)
You must find a source of water to survive.
Running water safer than say a pond. Should be boiled before drinking.
Food....eat nothing you do not know to be safe. Educate yourself before being in this situation. Note: all birds are edible. Roosting birds at night can be easy prey.
General rule of thumb is trees are safer than the ground.
Consider making a treehouse type shelter.
Shelter is necessary if surviving in one area for an extended period of time. Most likely if you are seeking help you will travel. Nevertheless shelter can be made from combinations of whatever is around ...limbs, branches, bark ,dirt, rocks ,vines ,grass, sod, mud, leaves, moss, snow, and ice. Easier to show than explain.
Store any gathered food items away from the shelter you intend to sleep in. Don't draw animals to you. If possible strew thorny items ( cactus pads, thorny bushes, briars, sharpened stakes pointing up etc.) around your shelter to help deter predators. Fire pit should be very close to shelter with ample tender and fuel supply if possible. You should be able to start a fire from previous coals in moments at all times. Learn how to start a fire using a bow.
Dry grasses can be made into rope.Learn to braid them.
A spear can serve as a walking stick as well as a hunting and defensive weapon.
Slings are easy to make and can be very effective.Good for hunting and driving off critters.
A rock securely tied to forked limb can make a dangerous weapon of last resort.
Avoid any dangerous animal if at all possible.
Avoid any dangerous climbing or walking in unsafe areas. If alone a broken leg could prove fatal.
Be aware the sun rises in the East and sets in the West. this will allow you to travel in one direction and keep from wandering aimlessly.Face the sun as it rises and North is on your right.
No matter the place shelter is going to come down to rocks or trees, tree limbs. leaves and grasses, barring finding a natural cave etc. Piles of rocks and or branches can provide shade and some protection from animals at night. Sleeping in a tree could provide some protection from certain large predators but not all. Not much sleep in that though. Grasses and leaves can be piled on limbs to shed rain and keep you dry and used to cover ones self for warmth on a chilly night. Winter time a snow cave perhaps.
You are not going to be able to take down a large animal so food would be nuts, berries, grass seeds, insects and small, slow wild life such as frogs, snakes or mice. Grasshoppers and locusts are good enough. Earth worms, raw frogs will work. In the US cattail plants which grow in the edge of water have edible roots, shoots, and also the green cattail heads are edilbe. The dry seeds of devil claw plants and the inside of prickly pear cactus pads and as wella s the tunas when ripe. There are pecans, pinion pine nuts and more depending upon time of year and location. Small animals like skunks, turtles and armadillos are easy enough to kill if you can eat one. Watch for many circling buzzards and go get their food if its not to far gone. Near water look for shell fish, crawfish or other critters. The most important nutrient to any animal is water.
Tools: A spear can be made by breaking a dead limb and grinding a point on it with rock. Crude but effective for fending off a small preditor or for stabbing a small food animal. A dagger can be made from along bone with a point ground on it. A blade for sliceing can be made from a peice of chert, flint, quartz or petrified wood. Just break off peices until you get one with crude but sharp edge. No knapping required or find one aleardy borken to suit the purpose. Mussel shell/clam shell for a bowl or spoon. Boil water in an animals stomach or any other object such a gourd by dropping hot stones into the water inside. Assuming you have fire. A big rock is a good crushing tool and a pocket full of smaller rocks can send a small animals fleeing or kill one.
Threatening animals should simply be avoided. Preditors roam mainly at nght. Carry a pointed walking stick if you can. Stand up straight and back slowly away from bears or anything else and move away without running. Urinate around your sleeping area at night in warm climates. It could keep a snake or other animals away.
each survival story is a wee bit special or different....
however.... in the wild you need food, water, shelter....
not always in that order..
if you find water....a stream, pond, or lake.... you will easily find food.. (and if you are smart... your way out of the wilderness)///
consider passive means to obtain food...especially animals and fish..... a wooden stake fence in a stream or lake to capture fish.... instead of trying to take down a 600 lb bear.... consider foraging for bugs...insects....(tastes like chicken:)....
it is possible to snare a rabbit, or raccoon.....however, if it really came down to that....I would put the priority of how the heck I would get out of there above fussing with snares....

Do I lose all my items in the wilderness if i die in runescape?
I want to go in the wilderness with my newly bought whip but i am afraid because i don't know if i die will it let me keep it, it IS my most valuable item that i would be carrying.Do I lose all my items in the wilderness if i die in runescape?
whats ur name ill lend u a set of claws so u can go in risk free
btw u do die
I played about a year ago then now my bro uses my account. He was um about lvl eighty seven.
Anyway your question throughout my years of playing one main rule about the wilderness has stayed the same, if you die u keep ur three most valueable unless you attack someone else first then u get a skull above your character and risk everything.
So if you take that whip ans Don attack first you'll keep it. Or there're is a prayer star thatgivea u an extra item on death. Now runscaoe also does if some computer killed u you have a minute to go get them. Good luck rubescqpe just pissed me off with all their trade rules and upgradesDo I lose all my items in the wilderness if i die in runescape?
Yep you drop it all and it will probably be taken by the person who kills you.
Although thats how i remember it from a few years ago.
it may have changed now. If you want to be safe and if it is still possible, get a group of buddies together and stay in a group you trust.
if you get a skull above your head from attacking somebody, you will lose EVERY item (unless you use the protect item prayer).
beware though, PKers use smite and also play dirty. Be careful with your whip.
Yes
If u dont want to lose all ur good stuff then get ur smithing up a few lvls then make urself some armour.
The best place to get ur smithing up I think is in dunganeering

How to tell direction in the wilderness (other then moss) without a compass?
The best solution is to never have to tell direction without a compass. Get you a compass and never go in the woods without it.Not only will a compass keep you from getting lost, it will save you thousands of steps a year by keeping you going in a straight line. When you master the art of reading your compass, get you a GPS. Greatest invention in the history of direction finding. How to tell direction in the wilderness (other then moss) without a compass?
I look to the sun. It rises in the east and sets in the west. Use your body as a compass visualizing a map of the USA: North is up, south is down, the westcoast (California) is left and the east (Florida) is right. So if you are facing north the westcoast will be on your left and east on your right with south behind you. Facing east then west will be behind you and north to your left and south to your right, etc...

Plants grow towards the sun so you can get a good idea even at night. Follow the sun. At night the moon and stars seem to turn and they turn east to west. Streams and rivers flow out to sea.

If you are stranded in the wilderness without anything how do you boil water?
And what would you use as a container to hold the water you need to boil?
Also, if you wanted to filter the water how would you do that since you don't have a container for the water? If you are stranded in the wilderness without anything how do you boil water?
I suppose you could fashion a container out of stone, and boil water inside of it after making a fire. You can purify water with chlorine and iodine tablets, or activated charcoal. If you are stranded in the wilderness without anything how do you boil water?

What can be said of the Union army during the brutal Wilderness Campaign?
-It ran short of troops to continue on to Richmond.
-Badly needed supplies and munitions arrived often.
-It got too far ahead of its main supply depots.
-Plenty of fresh soldiers kept the army strong.

It can be up to 46k xp per hour, tho you will probably only get around 30k, so while it COULD be done in around 28 hours, (40,000x 28= a little over a million, which is what you need) it will PROBABLY take you around 40 hours.
You'd be better off using the monkey agility course... You'll reduce training time by at least 10 hours.
let's say u play 4 hours a day.
and the xp rate/hour is 40k/h
and 52-75 agility is 1,086,761 XP
so 1,086,761/40000=27 hours and 7 minutes
which is about 6.8 days if u play 4 hours a day
9 days if you play 3 hours a day
13.6 days if u play 2 hours a day
and about 5 days if you play 5 hours a day.
i hope i helped you
It should take around a week if you play around 3-5 hours a day. and how well you concentrate of course!
with a bot, shouldn't be much longer than 1 night with a good night sleep :D bots ftw!

Main events of the Israelites in the wilderness?
So, i'm writing a research paper on the main events that happened in the wilderness after the Israelites received the 10 commandments. The only one I can think of is when the israelites made the golden calf and worshiped it.
Help? I need examples? Thank you!Main events of the Israelites in the wilderness?
Remember that God gave the Israelites manna from Heaven to feed them. It lasted indefinitely. Then they got bored with it and complained so God provided them with quail-like birds. But they spoiled quickly so they had to be eaten fast or not at all. Oddly it had the effect of making the Jews even more dependent on God. Israel was ultimately scattered because of the Jews worshiping the Canaanite idols instead of their own God, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
It's a little known fact that they were also known as the 'Fugawies'...

You are lost in a wilderness and you do not have a compass. How do you find north, south, east and west?
Even if there is no visibility of the sun, no moss growing on the trees or rocks, nor migrating animals. What other techniques can you use to order to find north, south, east and west? You are lost in a wilderness and you do not have a compass. How do you find north, south, east and west?
can you see the stars? If so you could use the north star at the end of the little dipper. if not then wait until either the sun or stars are visible again. I don't know of any other waysYou are lost in a wilderness and you do not have a compass. How do you find north, south, east and west?

What is a game where you have to survive in the wilderness?
I've played minecraft and love the idea of having to build a house and survive against monster! Its gotten boring for me lately and im looking for another game similar to it.What is a game where you have to survive in the wilderness?
The closest I know of is fallout. I guess you could set up mines and barricade yourself inside of an abandoned farmhouse that some raiders used to use. They usually have beds and you'd need to stockpile water and food. Only thing is either you never get attacked or only attacked every once in a while. If you have a computer you could get yourself attacked by deathclaws or radscropions. That's all I have.

You have some issues... This is not an appropriate question for this forum.
As Golden pointed out, the ol "Stump broke mule" aka "Backer Upper", would be ldeal for your special needs ie., can't go one day without fondlin' yourself "...
Note: Look at it this way, with the "Stump Broke" ya' wouldn't have ta' concern yourself with the ol' wives tale ~ ya' know as in goin' blind ;)...............
If you need to ask a question like that ( which i feel, is highly innaproperate in this or any other YAHOO ANSWERS forum ), I believe that you would have an I Q, of a dried up turnip, if even that high
Ain't you seen Broke Back Mountain??? Roll your buddy over when y'all are done fishing and slam it home...

When backpacking in the wilderness, hikers often boil water to sterilize it for drinking. Suppose that you are?
What volume of fuel should you bring? Assume each of the following: the fuel has an average formula of 15 of the heat generated from combustion goes to heat the water (the rest is lost to the surroundings); the density of the fuel is 0.78 the initial temperature of the water is 25.0 and the standard enthalpy of formation of is -224.4 .When backpacking in the wilderness, hikers often boil water to sterilize it for drinking. What exactly is the wilderness on Runescape?
And what happens in there? Anything Good? What exactly is the wilderness on Runescape?
The wilderness used to be a place where Player killing happened. But Jagex took out Pking and replaced the Pkers with Revenants. Now there's Pvp worlds. The wilderness is mostly black, with lots of dead trees.
an old guy with an axe lives there and kills the guys and rapes da girlsWhat exactly is the wilderness on Runescape?
The wilderness used to be a place where peoplpe went for PVP
unfortuanately, they took out PVP and replaced the wilderness for PVP worlds. All that is there for now is a few places to train, a castle or two, and occasionally an imp.
wilderness is north of the ditch that is north of edgeville and varrock, horizontally and spanning further past both. Mostly not much to do there other than killing green dragons, revenants, couple rune rocks, agility training area, clue scrolls.
The wilderness is the most risky place. In there, there are many users in Level 1-5 place killing each other. There are some users who went deeper in Wilderness to risk themselves to kill another user.
Players kill other players so, yes it was the wilderness... noob
In PvP worlds it is a place to kill and get rich by killing it is loaded with all kinds of monsters the deeper you go, also mini games and dungeons can be found. In non pvp worlds you cannot kill players.
Its an area with a lot of high leveled monsters called renevants that attack you with magic attacks that can hit up to 50.
Hi,
That used to be what could happen in the wilderness but now they changed it and you can not attack other players.
Mostly you can go there to go to minigames, in PvP worlds you can kill other players and if you're a member, you can go to he deep end of the wildy and kill certain monsters not available to F2P players.
The wilderness use to be a great place where players can fight each other to the death and claim the other players items.
However Jagex took the wilderness out because many higher level players were taking low level players deep into the wilderness to kill them. They would lure them by trading or by saying "I know where to get alot of good items, just follow." After a while Jagex put in a wilderness ditch to try to prevent this, however many players created bot accounts, so they took those bot accounts to the wild and killed them for the items just to get rich.
Now the wilderness is no longer a player vs player area. Instead the wilderness is composed of reveants (who will attack, and freeze you), dragons, hellhounds, chaos element (big ugly blob deep in the wilderness), bandits, black unicorns, hill giants and skeletons.
Also the fist of guthix, clan wars, and stealing creation are located in the wilderness.
Where that player took you and killed you was the wilderness.
now instead of players fighting in the wilderness, Jagex created PVP worlds, where only certain areas are safe, the other areas players can fight and kill each other.

Why are there 3 St John the Baptist in the Wilderness paintings?
They each have the exact same title. One of them is by Da Vinci, the other by Bosch, and the third by Van Dyck. Is this a common title or theme in painting? Why are there 3 St John the Baptist in the Wilderness paintings?
It is normal. Many painters like to depict some of the events in the Bible. Another case I could mention is The Annunciation.
Three? There are hundreds, thousands of paintings about him... btw have you ever read the Bible? Why are there 3 St John the Baptist in the Wilderness paintings?

How will reservoirs in dams flood areas such as farmlands, wilderness areas and inundate towns and villages?
I just want to know how would reservoirs in dams inundate towns and villages? How will reservoirs in dams flood areas such as farmlands, wilderness areas and inundate towns and villages?
the inundation happens when they build the dam. basically what is happening is that they build a huge wall at th bottom of a valley which has a small river running through it. The wall stops the river flowing so the valley fills up with water (making a reservoir). whatever was in the valley before - villages, wilderness, animals, will get flooded. Have a look at info on the three gorges dam in china for examples. once the dam is built, there's no more inundation (unless there's a breach or something where the dam breaks)

There are books on edible wild plants. Get one form your library and read it carefully. You didn't list mushrooms as one of the plants that yu have found to eat. I recommend that if you ever get around to reading up on them, proceed with caution when selecting some to eat. Never eat them raw. Secondly, they have very little food value and serve only as filler material. Unless you are properly trained in recognizing the ones that are safe to eat, they are not worth the risk. One thing that is good to eat if handled proerly is Poke Weed. It is quite taste3y and has a lot of neutriants. However, it must be parboiled at least twice beforfe cooking to remove the small amount of toxins that are in it. Some people are not sensitive to the toxins but others will get upset stomach and diarrhea. Just parboil it twice until the "\weedy" odor is gone or almost gone. Then you can cook it like spinich or any other green.. I love it and pick all I can in the spring. Use only the top leaves or the yourng sprouting leaves. Older larger leaves are tough and stringy but the young leaves are delicious.
Some lichens are edible, or so I am told by friends who have told me that they have eaten them. They say that they are not all that flavorful but are nutircious and edible. See what your book says about lichens.
In the spring you can find May Apples. They are delicious but hard to find because teh animlas eat them almost as quickly as they appear. If you can find them, they are delicious. In the fall around October, Paw Paws become ripe. They, too, are delicious but they are rich and you can eat only a few at a time. They taste somewhat similar to a banana or possibly more like a cross between a banana and a mango. When theyh are ripe, they fall to the ground. I eat only those that I pick up off the ground so I know they are ripe and at their peak of flavor. There will be a lot of rotton ones lying arond but you can tell the difference. Persimmons are another good source of food. Never, but never, pick a persimmon from the tree. Until they fall to the ground, they are not ripe and you don't want to eat a persimmon that is not ripe. That's a flavor experience you won't soon forget. An unripe persimmon is very tart and astringent but when ripe they are delicious. Just pick them up off the ground around the tree. They should be soft like a ripe peach. Leave the firm ones lay.
There are many other edible wild plants and a good book on the subject will help you find, recognize and prepare them.
Don't forget wild marijuana. It's all over Kentucky. It's very easy to identify, nutritious (both seeds and leaves) and you couldn't eat enough of it to have the effect that cultivated marijuana does, due to wild marijuana's low THC content.papa ginos thai recipes

Where can I get a sample of Blue Buffalo Wilderness dog food?
It doesn't really matter what flavor, but the Duck flavor is highly preferred. So, is there anywhere I can get a sample of it? I checked their site and could not find anything.
Thanks.Where can I get a sample of Blue Buffalo Wilderness dog food?
Blue doesn't give away samples, but if your sign up for their mailing list they will sent you a 5 dollar coupon. Also, if you buy from petsmart they have a 100% guarantee on their food. if your dog doesn't like it, bring it back and they will give your monet back! The food is awesome. I work at petsmart and recommend it every day, and although we have that guarantee, its very seldom brought back! :)

Should each state be required to have an equal amount of Wilderness Area?
Should each of the 50 states be required to meet the same percentage of their lands be locked up into wilderness Areas? If so, how would it work and if not, why the unfair imbalance?Should each state be required to have an equal amount of Wilderness Area?
This is a great question and Ihave to laugh at some of the posts which scream out hypocrisy. If Wilderness is a great idea, then why not for all states? and why not the same percentage? I think we all have states we dont like something about and prefer to dump on, but how important is actual fairness to us? In states like CT and RI, where theres a will theres a way. If Wilderness is important, then it would be implemented in their backyards too. There is a huge hypocrisy here that shows and select states are being dumped on, and it is unfair and discriminatory to those dumped on states. True justice would be that they have a way to fight back but there is no true justice in America.
Each state cannot be required to have an equal wilderness area because of different geographical locations and terrain.Should each state be required to have an equal amount of Wilderness Area?
Any power not granted to the federal government in our constitution is delegated to the states. The federal government has no authority to demand how states use their land. Each state should, and is, able to decide for themselves how public lands are managed.
I think not. Some states have land that allow for good agriculture, others for raising cattle, others for other things. To treat each state like its land is useful in the same way as all the others doesn't seem fair. It would be ignoring climate, population, farming, etc. However, the states with more wilderness reserved by the government should receive more money than those with less wilderness.
Just my uneducated two cents.
i think so, but it prolly wouldnt work, cause ppl would want it for mining, fossil feul extraction, and such, so im not sure.

Do you have a list that shows where the imbalance is or isn't right now? How do you know this has already not been accomplished?
Look on a map sometime! What 'wilderness' are you thinking of? How much is in New Hampshire or Rhode Island?
Liberal prefer wilderness be limit too poorer districts, so they do not have to live there.
Should Not Be Required but something that does automatically! Sadly there are people and states that don't see it as "To Their Advantage" so YES! But it would have to but Proportional to the Size of the State! California could not put aside the Same amount as Texas, Rode Island's area would be less then Texas and so on.
i don't think so. Some states just don't have the type of land for wilderness habitats. At least a certain % is reasonable for states but not the same percentage for each state.
Every state SHOULD have at least 25% of it as protected Wilderness area. What is wrong with you people? So if wilderness areas interfere with industrial and residential ares, the answer is simple: plow down the industrial ares and plant trees, and protect that area. The loss of the industry wont hurt anyone but the neocons because the industrial groups donate so much to the conservatives anyway. For the displaced residential areas, we can relocate them like we do endangered species. Relocate them to a wonderful new environment where they can start their newfound lives over,,,and I know they will be very happy knowing their former homes are now turned into protected wilderness area and what a wonderful feeling they would have knowing they are helping me save the planet?
Interesting question! I understand that some people wish their state had more public land and some people wish their state had less public land.
I, personally, wish my state had more public land. Our family gave up on the idea of camping without reservations a long time ago...takes all the spontaneity out of it. It does sometimes feel unfair because I know that people in other states have a lot more wilderness area in which to play, and some of it is federal land.
I do have a friend who wishes his state had less public land. Of course, this is a double-edged sword too, because landowners enjoy higher property value via the whole supply-and-demand thing. My friend also has the luxury of using lands that he does not own and of vistas that wouldn't be without the public lands.
It appears that our ancestors didn't plan this out very well.
Nice idea, but not possible. States like Nevada, Wyoming and the Dakotas have far less development, and more capability for wilderness set asides. States like Conn., Mass. and others do have some land set aside, but can't match the level in wide open states like AK.
hmm...good question. i'd say they should have a bare minimum, hopefully some states would exceed that minimum by a lot.
All states are different in size. Some are more urban, and some are more rural. You can't compare apples to oranges.
I would say yes, but there is a major discrimination flaw in the wilderness areas to begin with. I have one h*** of a hard time getting my wheelchair up and around those areas, and without handicap access--those "PUBLIC" lands are discriminating against me because others can go hike in and see the wilderness, yet I cant because my access is blocked, so for all the Al Gores out there I would say give me the right to see it or get rid of it because it discriminates against the handicapped and its time the government got sued over it!
No. They shouldn't because some simply have wilderness where almost no one lives while other have wilderness where they could make a civilization! The people with good land would get angry. If they did make this though they would most likely lose money.
no many eastern states have little or no wilderness left also climate/terrain keeps wilderness in many areas like Alaska Montana
Every state should have some wilderness here in vermont we have lots and its beautiful
No.
No. I think that we need to have a balance between protected wilderness and developed areas that is healthy, however, such a policy would be irresponsible and not cost effective.
10% of Rhode Island would interfere with many establishments. 10% of alaska would interfere with almost nothing.

When backpacking through a forest or anywhere in the wilderness, where should one keep their food at night?
One of the first things I have learned when camping/backpacking is to never keep any kind of food inside your tent at all. If so, and one is backpacking, say through the Rockies, then where should you put your food when you are not hiking? When backpacking through a forest or anywhere in the wilderness, where should one keep their food at night?
Some place at Rocky Mountain National Park they have "Bear Boxes" and "Bear Cables" or you could get a bear canister.

Zach p is on the right track, but is missing a critical reason of why we tie up our food at night. When I have set up camp for the evening and am finished with my food I will tie it up in a tree using about a 30' cord tossed over a high limb. I use my sleeping bag's stuff sack to hold the food.
This practice is typically called "bear bagging" your food, but it also effectively discourages other animals as well that would likely eat through your bag or tent to get to something that smells good. Rabbits, mice, squirrels, and marmots are all Rocky Mountain robbers who need to be denied food access. When backpacking through a forest or anywhere in the wilderness, where should one keep their food at night?
put your food in a bag and then tie it in-between two tree at least 20ft off the ground. make sure the trees are far enough apart so the kamikaze bears don't get it

Can anyone think of some famous writers or people in general who have gone into seclusion in the wilderness?
I'm trying to think of some writers (or other famous figures in general) who have gone to live in the wilderness for a year or so, or who secluded themselves from society in some way. I know there are quite a few, but for some reason I can't think of any right now.
Thank you!Can anyone think of some famous writers or people in general who have gone into seclusion in the wilderness?
Jack London loved to take off into the wilderness, Into the Wild is a 1996 non-fiction book written by Jon Krakauer. The book depicts the two-year wilderness trek of Christopher McCandless from 1990 -92
Henry Davida Thoreau, Mark Twain, Hemingway and many othersCan anyone think of some famous writers or people in general who have gone into seclusion in the wilderness?
Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings? I would guess... but I'm not sure.

How can I find longitude and latitude in the wilderness?
Hey everyone, I'm doing a project called La Isla for school, which involves getting stranded on an island with 5 other people and surviving. One of my tasks is to discover tools or ways to find out the longitude and latitude of my location. Could you guys tell me any ways or methods possible, without computers or GPS's, I have no technology on me on the island.
P.S. If you got the answer from a website, could you also include the link? Thanks alot guys. How can I find longitude and latitude in the wilderness?
I think that you would still remain lost. You stated that you have no technology on the Island then to know your Latitude and Longitude would be of no use as you could not tell anyone - no radio.
As qbtrack has pointed out you could determine your latitude in the Northern hemisphere by measuring the angle from the horizon to the Polar star. But how are you going to measure the angle?
Longitude is measured with a clock or chronometer but if you do not know the time at GMT then you cannot work out your Longitude even if you could measure the exact time that the sun reached its zenith (highest point).
Sorry, you are still lost.
Finding North, South, East and West is easy.
KiwiPete is too dismissive. For shame. First, it's trivial to construct a quadrant to measure the angle. Second, even if you can't comm. with the outside world, knowing your latitude could still be useful for any number of reasons. When you're stranded, any small piece of information can be vital.
Latitutde is easily determined from the stars. Longitude is another matter entirely.

Where did the olive oil and flour come from while the Israelites were in the wilderness?
When the israelites during the exodus were told to present olive oil and flour to the lord in their offerings, did they perhaps barter for them, for beef or lamb, hides or dairy produce that they had, with the locals on the way?Where did the olive oil and flour come from while the Israelites were in the wilderness?
The Israelites always kept oil on them -- it was a big part of their worship, and was a symbol of anointing. If you go back to the book of Genesis you'll find that many of the patriarchs would often pour oil on the altars they would build.

Are there females who have survived the harsh wilderness when going hiking or camping?
I mean with only a knife, rations of food, sleeping bag, and maybe a sidearm. Are there females who have survived the harsh wilderness when going hiking or camping?
Sure, I did that regularly in my 20's. I used to go backpacking even in the middle of the winter at temperatures way below zero, often without a tent, just a lightweight tarp. Didn't need a firearm either (have never carried one -- what would you need it for?) I had a number of female friends who were Outward Bound instructors and had gone through rigorous survival training including as much as a week alone in the backcountry with minimal equipment.
There are countless women throughout history who have endured and even enjoyed such challenges. Remember the Donner Party, the pioneer group who was stranded all winter in the Sierra Nevadas back in the 1840's and some of them had to revert to cannibalism to survive? Most of the women survived and most of the men died. The women also managed to keep all of their children alive (and the women refused to eat the dead). Some of the great adventurers and mountaineers have been female, including a woman in her 50's who was the first to climb 22,000' Huascaran, the highest mountain in the Peruvian Andes. There are plenty of books on women adventurers -- too many to list here.
in fact, during the 1950s and 1960s when the US Military and NASA were preparing for the space program, someone had the idea (unusual at that time when women were discriminated against in most workplace environments) to test women as well as men for candidates to be astronauts. Much to the researchers' surprise, the females they tested had more endurance over a range of conditions than the men, especially for the psychological stress of extended isolation. They had one test where they would leave the person in a dark float chamber until they couldn't stand it any more. Some men lasted a few hours, a few made it to a couple of days. All of the women stood it longer than any of the men and one woman was so comfortable with it that she never asked to be let out -- they just ended the experiment after several days so that the researchers could go home for the weekend! Despite the test results, and the fact that women, being smaller and therefore needing less oxygen and food, would have been more practical to use in the early spacecraft, the US decided to limit the first astronauts to males only. It was almost 20 years before women were a regular part of the on-board space program.
Physiologically, women hold up better in severe cold -- though their hands and feet feel cold sooner than men, that is because their bodies have evolved to protect the core (and a baby, if they are pregnant) so they don't lose heat through their extremities they as fast as men do and so are less susceptible to hypothermia and frostbite. Psychologically they are less likely to panic and make poor decisions under difficult circumstances. I've participated in the rescue of several men over the years who lost it in the woods (often the biggest "toughest" guys are the first to break) and had to be sedated or even strapped in a Stokes litter to evacuate them they were so freaked out. I helped in the rescue of women on 3 occasions, but even though all of them were injured they each kept their calm and were able to evacuate under their own power with some help.
I'm not just saying this because I am female myself. I have worked in construction and been a wilderness skills instructor for over 35 years and I have seen first hand how both men and women react to severe conditions. Yes, there are fewer women than men in both construction and in challenging wilderness sports, but the women that are in those fields are just as tough as, and in some cases, tougher than, any of the men.
Yes, I did. Subzero temperatures at night, walking very long distances through rough terrain during the day. There were a few other chicks with me as well. I am perplexed as to why you don't think it possible for females to survive these conditions, is it possible you have such little experience with women you didn't know we are just as capable as men?Are there females who have survived the harsh wilderness when going hiking or camping?
I enjoy backpack camping in the Colorado Rockies.
My girlfriend, Jill, endured ten days in the Appalachian Mountains, Great Smoky Mountain National Park in March of last year. It snowed for four days straight and the temperature never made it above 10 degrees farenheit. She survived by...no wait a minute, it wasn't the Appalachian Mountains, it was Reno, Nevada. Wait a minute, I'm sorry it wasn't snowing, I think there was a drought. And, now that I think about it, that wasn't my girlfriend, it was a hooker named Jill who I met at the Bunny Ranch where I went to get some liquid refreshments because of the darn drought. Ooops, never mind.
--- hey I am a guy so I tend to vote for the guy stuff but I think if one were try to be objective women are tougher because they have to take care of the kids -- in a newspaper I read that in british columbia canada a woman and her kid got attacked by a cougar the lady attacked the cougar and stuck her arm down the cougars throat-- they grappled for a while -- first chance it got the cougar ran away -- I think her arm was mangled but I am not sure but I did read this story -- I think mother nature made women tough for when the guys are out hunting or on war parties or going to the hockey game.
There are a lot of women out there that are able to handle any sort of conditions. There were lots of us that are in the Guiding movement, and able to handle it, as well as there are many women who have just as much interest in the outdoors with that of the men.
If you're asking about famous women the first I can think of off the top of my head is Sacajawea.
No...no woman has ever survived the harsh wilderness. They all died.
If I had a sarcastic font, I would use it.

What movie has a young man surviving a plane crash in the middle of wilderness?
This is all I remember: The plane crashes into a body of water. The guy is able to get out. Later on in the movie, he decides he needs something from the plane, so he swims to plane wreck and sees the dead pilot inside.
Also, if anyone has any "survival"-genre movies to recommend, I'd like to hear them. Thanks. What movie has a young man surviving a plane crash in the middle of wilderness?
Hatchet.
It's also a book. It's a wonderful book. I recommend reading it.
Ginger is right she should get best answer but just so you know the movie Hatchet is also called A Cry in the Wild http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0099327/ the film usually goes by this title in the US not Hatchet.

How would i find detailed maps of uninhabited wilderness area?
They dont have to be extremely detailed like satellite, just topo and geographic maps of rivers, mtns, valleys etc.How would i find detailed maps of uninhabited wilderness area?
Depends which country. For example, it might be quite easy to get a 1:50,000 (or possibly 25,000) map of an uninhabited area of US or Canada, but not Mongolia.

What do you think is the most important wilderness survival skill and why?
Having confidence in your abilities, and staying calm are very important. If you start to freak out, you'll forget some key survival tips. Beyond that, being able to find food, water, shelter, and your way back to civilization should be your top priority. What do you think is the most important wilderness survival skill and why?
The will to survive coupled with staying calm and thinking.

What gives people the right to invade the space of animals living in the wilderness?
Why are we as people so intrusive ? Why do we invade habitats and disturb the lives of innocent animals to be exploited for the sake of money? We also exploit foreign people in their tribes and corrupt their minds with outside influences! Why??!What gives people the right to invade the space of animals living in the wilderness?
Animals and tribal people have a horrible immigration policies.
I totally agree with what you're trying to say .
Most humans seem to think that they are "The Most Superior" beings on this earth and never put themselves in the place of the animals or other living things .
Some things that people like you and me can do is buy some land in a forest or even a field that are GREAT ecosystems ! So many plants and animals live in forests / fields and you'd be saving a lot of lives by owning the land and keeping it from becoming a subdivision .
That would be awesome .
I'm too young , being a teenager , to buy a piece of land , and I don't have enough money , but if I could , I totally would buy millions of acres .
KEEP IT GREEN , CHILDREN . KEEP IT GREEN .What gives people the right to invade the space of animals living in the wilderness?
One reason for this may be 'might is right'.
Second reason for this is encroachment has become the order of the day.
Third reason for this is over population. Rural areas are becoming urban.
The last point you have touched is vital. Among all the pollutions, moral pollution is worst. I also agree that it should not be encouraged. I think nothing can be done by individuals or Government, as it is due to nature's evolution.
Dominance. Humans think that because that we can walk and talk that we are the "superior species" and that the animals are inferior creatures that just get in the way of skyscrapers, machine guns and mega domes. They die so we can go to a ritzy resort or a mega mall. We sure as hell have digressed from the animal worshiping Egyptians and the nature loving Native Americans.
We have the right to eat the animals just like the animals have the right to eat us. It is just natural curiosity to go out and eat new things.
The swine flu epidemic shows that nature is mightier than man. Nature will balance out man and the "animals" will have their revenge.
Would you ask that to a caveman billions of years ago? Start from there. Then work your way down to the modern age. Good luck. The Jian.
On this planet, people do not only invade the space of animals living in the wilderness but also space other humans occupy.
Do you need examples for that?
Thanks for taking interest in animals but it is too late ....we are surrounded by many animal disease and if it goes on and on then that day is not so far when animal will become infected by humans.
Nice question!
My answer is this: I don't know.
But the birds outside my window don't seem to mind that that I give them sunflowers seeds all year long.
No rights at all, if money was not such
a necessity this wouldn't be an issue....

How long did the Israelites stay in the wilderness?
I was told the time that the Jews kept was different from the Roman Calendar that we use today.
Is the 40 years actually forty years in todays sense or more like 4 years, 4 months, or another span of time? I read somewhere that Methusalah actually lived around 99 years instead of 999 because of the difference in the way Jewish and Roman time is kept. That's what makes me ask.How long did the Israelites stay in the wilderness?
I think it's probably exactly 40 years. They had to wander long enough such that the generation who (temporarily) reverted back to worship of Baal died out, so any less would not be long enough; any time longer would be adsurd.
The bible is a fascinating collection of Jewish folk lore and fairy tales . Does it really matter if they did or how long they did it? It's all in the moral of the story . Satellite images of the Sinai show bedouin camp sites that are over 2000 years old, no sign of 500,000 Jews wandering about. But the story has a moral and a lesson to teach. You could also argue the diameter of the bean stock that Jack cut down. As to the length of time that the Israelites were in the wilderness, one might argue that they are still there,if you take their treatment of the Palestinians as any indicationHow long did the Israelites stay in the wilderness?
When they exited Egypt, the Israelites traveled to Mt. Sinai, which the bible informs is in nothern Arabia, most likely in the eastern part of the land of Median, the country of Moses' father in law. From there they travel to the area around the Jordan River. Here they failed in faith and for forty years they wandered in the wilderness until God brought the remnant back to the promised land.
The biblical passage says 40 years. However "40" gets used a lot.
Methuselah's "999" could well have been Luna months. That would also explain some of the excessively long life spans found in the Bible. Using this method one could say he lived between 76 and 83 years. In a world where the average life expectancy was around 30, that would be a significant number.
not long enough

Where would be good places to enjoy the wilderness in New Mexico?
I have been to Taos, Carlsbad, Santa Fe, and thats about it.Where would be good places to enjoy the wilderness in New Mexico?
The Gila Wilderness in the Southwestern part of the state. Also Chama, Ruidoso, Red River, Jemez. Even the Sandia and Manzano Mountains 20-30 minutes East and Southeast of Albuquerque are beautiful. NM has over 16 million acres of acres of forested land, it's not just a bleak desert as some people believe.
Sierra Blanca White Mountain Wilderness area just outside Ruidoso, New Mexico. Cloud Croft and Red River areas.
I have never hiked at Sierra Blanca but trails are there. I have seen elk, wild mustangs and mule deer.

Lincoln National Forest has lots of winding roads and beautiful scenery though it's been over 20 years since I've been there.

What is the classic instrumental music always played during the morning scenes in the wilderness?
(This song is not to be confused with the "Trumpet wake up call" song) but I've looked all over the internet and i can't find the song anywhere. From what i remember it's either a clarinet or a flute playing the main part with a forest ambiance in the background? Idk, but if you can find a movie where that song is played (or better yet, find the name to the song!) then i will be more than grateful :)

Might be Grieg "Morning Mood" you're thinking of but I'm not sure.

You may be referring to "Morning" from the Peer Gynt Suite by Edvard Grieg.

Can i feed blue wilderness cat food to my kitten?
Blue Wilderness is supposed to be a HIGH protein with minimal carb cat food. My question is: can i feed it to kittens? It would seem that would be the formula you would want a kitten to have. Can i feed blue wilderness cat food to my kitten?
Yes, you can. It's all about protein and fat content, not "special kitten nutrients". If you actually were to look at the nutritional analysis on a bag, and compare it to the grocery store "kitten chow" you will see that it actually has more meat protein (and nutrients) than those special kitten formulas. And if anyone doubts this - well, then actually do the reading for yourself. It's there in black and white if you take the time to look. My foster kittens are all fed the "adult" Blue Buffalo Wilderness canned, and also the adult Wellness canned and they thrive!
Remember that Nature didn't create special kitten mice and mice for adult cats. When a cat is fed the all-meat, high protein diet they were created to eat rather than corn-filled junk, they will do well.
You shouldn't. Kittens require higher levels of fats and other nutrients than adult cats do, because they are still growing. (You wouldn't deprive your 2 year old of bread and carbohydrates, would you?)
Double check with your vet, but in the mean time I would recommend only feeding your kitten a food that is specifically for kittens. Can i feed blue wilderness cat food to my kitten?
Definitely! It's a great food I wouldn't hesitate to find my kitten. It's "all life stages" so you can feed it basically from the time they're weaned until they're seniors..
Oops, I take that back. I could have sworn it used to be all life stages. But still, wouldn't hesitate to feed it to a kitten.
Ask your vet; even though its supposedly high in protein, which is good, it may be lacking in other nutrients. Only a vet can say if its good for a kitten. Vets are happy to ensure something is good for an animal, so don't be afraid to ask.
Absolutely. Is one of the better foods for cats. Most of the cat foods are worse than the dog foods. It is difficult to find a good cat food. Blue Wilderness is very good.
Dry or wet?
The BB Wilderness Dry has about 28% carbs, while the wet only about 1.5%
I am totally with you on rather feeding high quality adult food, than low quality kitten food, and most of kitten formulas out there are junk. But I would opt for the wet, I didn't find any dry food with carbs below 10% so far, and I believe cats should have less than 5%, 10% carbs max.
I wouldn鈥榯 really recommend feeding any dry food. Cats are designed to get their water from food. That's the way nature designed them, they have low thirst drive. When fed dry, they won't drink enough to compensate for the lack of moisture. They will only consume about 50% of the water they should be having. This can lead to kidney disease, UTI, crystals, blockage, renal failure and more.
Free feeding also contributes to obesity. And the fact that dry food is over-processed means, that most of it鈥檚 little nutrition has been already destroyed, leaving almost no nutrients for your cat. It needs to eat more to meet it鈥檚 needs, and in the process consumes more calories from the fillers.
Btw wetting the dry food will not help. There鈥檚 bacteria on the kibble and the water would just allow it to grow.
The only way to give the cat it's natural hydration is to feed it wet food only.
But some wet foods are not of a very high quality, either. That goes for most commercial foods. Just like the dry, they are often made with cheap fillers such as corn, wheat, soy, rice etc. These are not a part of cat's natural diet (it鈥檚 an obligate carnivore 鈥?it eats meat) and they are not designed to digest it. Grain is carbohydrate which the cats can't process and it turns into blood sugar and fat, causing diabetes and obesity. In the wild, where cats only hunt for meat, diabetes and obesity are unheard of. It's us who cause these by feeding a species inappropriate food.
We usually read labels on our food, but rarely on the food for our cats. Learn to read the label and understand the ingredients. The healthiest food to feed apart from raw feeding is grain-free wet food with no by-product. Some good brands are Wellness CORE, EVO, Merrick, Nature's Variety, Blue Buffalo Wilderness and more. These will give your cat the proper hydration and nutrition it's designed to get and it will be strong and healthy.
If you switch it's diet, do it gradually, by mixing the current food with the new one over couple of weeks until there's only the new. This will prevent diarrhea and upset stomach.
You will probably get a lot of different answers, so google feline nutrition or look at the links below, and do the research for yourself. I personally wasn't able to find one reliable source (besides the pet food industry) that would say grain is beneficial for cats or that dry is beneficial for them.

Where can me and my woman go to rent some horses and take off into the wilderness?
I am trying to find a place maybe in Colorado or somewhere else with beautiful scenery that me and my woman can go rent some horses, and just take off into the woods/wilderness without having a guide following us the whole time. We basically just want to rent horses and ride where ever we want and do some camping, then after we are done return the horses and go on our way.Where can me and my woman go to rent some horses and take off into the wilderness?
Colorado ranch in colorado springsWhere can me and my woman go to rent some horses and take off into the wilderness?
I doubt you are going to find anyone who is going to let you take off into the woods with their stock. It would be very difficult to find some one you don't know who would trust you to take care of the animals.
Possibly buy the animals you need and then sell them when you are done, even if it's for a big loss it's probably less than the rental charge would be. Another option is to do a spot trip, this is where the packer delivers you to a spot, takes the stock and leaves, then returns at a designated time and packs you out. On this kind of trip the packer is only there during the ride in and out.

Do you have to get a permit to have your wedding in the wilderness?
We've discussed the idea of getting married in the mountains behind our house. There is a paved road all the way up the mountain with numerous spots to stop and go play in the woods. Its open all day and night to the public, I never see anyone patrolling it. We would be having just the ceremony, so no food, drinks, alcohol etc.
Do we need a permit to hold the ceremony there? If we do, how would we find out who to get it from?Do you have to get a permit to have your wedding in the wilderness?
You should definitely at least look into getting a permit. It would be awful if the day of your wedding, a Fish and Game officer told you that you had to leave. Your best bet would be to go to your town hall and speak with someone there. If you told them where it is and what you want to do there, they should be able to give you the correct information or get you the contact info of who could help you.
If it is not your land then you need permission. If it is government land, you need a permit. Wilderness areas require a permit for almost everything now, even parking. If youre going to have a wedding there, they want to make sure you leave the area exactly as you found it.Do you have to get a permit to have your wedding in the wilderness?
Yes. You need a city or county permit because you are doing this on public property.
Does this place have a name? If so research it on google or in the phone book. See if you can find a phone # to call and ask.
It completely depends on the area. Most national parks do require you but in my state, most parks are owned by the city and they do not require a permit.
However I know certain states like California are much stricter and certain parks like Central Park NYC are way more crowded so therefore require a permit.
It's just like how most beaches in California require one. However I've had several friends get married in parks that did not require it at all.
You'll need to find out who owns the park--is it national, state or local jurisdiction--then contact them to see if a permit is required and how much the permit costs. It completely ranges--many are $55 but some are a couple hundred.

What exactly is a wilderness guide?
I have been studying survival and primitive skills for 15 years do I qualify? How does one become a wilderness guide. Where and how does one go about establining their own guide business, and or lead organized outings? How does one advertise this stuff without sounding like a new age hippie? What exactly is a wilderness guide?
You might start with calling your park service and fish and game for your state. You will be required to prove your skills and before an agency awards your registration. many stes require you to work under a registered guide for x amount of time. You will more than likey have to undergo a complete backround check, felons, sex-offenders ect. are out peroid. You will have to get a biz. liscence and most places require your biz lisc. # and reg. guide # in your adds. If you dont most customers will skip right over you. You will have to carry an insurance policy that fits the type of guiding you do. Good luck with your endeavor.

If human is a logical animal - should we cast all believers into the wilderness to perish?
Can't remember whether it was Aristotle or Socrates who said human is the logical animal, but isn't that what seperates us from the animals, being logical?
Personally think anyone who believes in God should be called sub-human.If human is a logical animal - should we cast all believers into the wilderness to perish?
Nah, we'll just keep educating them until we win.

Jesus and Buddha had this habit of meditating in the wilderness?
Buddha always waked in to the Himalayan jungle region and spent weeks and months meditating while jesus did the same by walking in to the desert wilderness of the middle east
Why do most Christians disregard the jungles and nature while the Buddhists keep cutting down their rain forests in return for money when both them founders of these 2 great religions had a unique connection to mother nature?Jesus and Buddha had this habit of meditating in the wilderness?
Meditation is always done in the wilderness, away from chirping of the society
what is surprising in it ?
If you want to meditate for more than 5 minutes in this world, you gotta go where people can't find you to bother you
Buddhists don't live in the Rainforest - Buddhists reside primarily in Asia, while Rainforests are in South America
But your basic critique is noted - most people's religion is more like a pair of pants they wear until they get too fat and can't fit in them any longer - in other words, it's something they think they need to have but it it's uncomfortable to do what they want while wearing them, they just buy a new pair that looks like the old ones, only they fit what they want to doJesus and Buddha had this habit of meditating in the wilderness?
Jesus and Buddha are the prime figures of Their respective religion. Of course, because nature
pictures the flow of how things go about the way the Highest Being wants it to be, They will
wish to attain nirvana, for Buddha, and communication to the Highest, for Jesus, through
"immersing" in nature and "retreating" from the world, because They always seek for
spiritual callings, always seek to have "inner stability" through communicating with Him with
the help of most basic thing that the He created. Now not all ordinary mortals have that
strong longing for more spiritual understanding or strong desire to go beyond the boundaries
of what ordinary men can take, whatever it may be in the form of. That's why for most men, it's
easier to decide whether to destroy a natural habitat or not, for his most basic instinct is to
satisfy his own physiological needs or material wants.
Buddhists know that nothing lasts forever, so I don't think they care.
Anyway, most Buddhists countries aren't wealthy and they're still developing, but trees are an abundant resource. If I wanted to make money in one of those countries I would cut down all the trees I could find.
Back in the day people with epilepsy would go into caves or the woods because if the others seen them take a seizure they would have them killed.
that's a pretty sweeping generalisation isn't it? How do you know most Christians disregard the jungle?
dude, all christians sure sidharta is in hell
how a bout you?
are you abudhist or a christian?
which one?
or mix? both
Jesus is fiction though.

What is a good surviving in the wilderness book?
I want a story not how to survive in the wild, maybe based on a true story...
I love Into the Wild or Jack London storiesWhat is a good surviving in the wilderness book?
Surviving Antarctica by Andrea White
The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon, by Stephen King (this might surprise you, especially since its by Stephen King. It's geographically correct, the information and means used to survive and get along in the story are accurate and painfully realistic, the story, although fictional, is stressful and fast. This book actually almost made me cry, and although it may come off as what you expect from a Stephen King novel...this one ought to surprise you, should you choose to look into it)
Hope you find this interesting! If not, good luck! What is a good surviving in the wilderness book?
Have you read "To build a Fire" by Jack London? I enjoyed it a lot. I hope this helps. Good luck.
Hatchet and its sequels.ginos east lounges

How big does a place have to be to qualify as a wilderness reserve?
Meaning you don't need to have the same restrictions as zoo's etc..How big does a place have to be to qualify as a wilderness reserve?
A wilderness preserve is an area set aside for the preservation of animals and wilderness. It does not have to be a certain size but it has to be kept as a preserve forever once begun. There could be certain town or city ordinances in reguards to this but, there is not size limit on the area of the land.

What should I be aware of when considering moving into the alaskan wilderness for 3 months?
I've had the dream of living in Alaska for a period of time for a while and want to work out how to do it. Ideally I would be living in the middle of nowhere and be able to hunt an fish. I would like to go in the Fall for about 3 months. What do I need to consider as per gun laws, visas, etc. etc. Are there any good website resources on finding suitable places? What should I be aware of when considering moving into the alaskan wilderness for 3 months?
There is a lot to consider.
First where: Not all land can just be 'lived off' of. Many areas are owned by Native corporations and federal agencies. So you will need to find a place where you can secure the right for your little adventure. Parks and wilderness areas can not be lived in, and require permits. You might have luck finding a private landowner who would grant you permission. Researching land ownership by borough is probably best. Alaskans don;t take kindly to trespassers, and even land that appears empty may be owned and you may not be welcome. Alaska is huge, so this first step might take awhile

OK now hunting, unless you are an Alaska resident this can pose a problem, Out of state hunters are limited and you will need special permits. Also you need to be aware of all hunting regulations in the area where you are living. You can not take game out of season, and in different areas there are special requirements. SO start reading the Alaska Fish and Game regulations
http://wildlife.alaska.gov/index.cfm?adf鈥?/a>
http://www.wc.adfg.state.ak.us/index.cfm鈥?/a>
and a whole set of regs for fishing
http://www.sf.adfg.state.ak.us/statewide鈥?/a>
Research the weather and climate in the area you hope to stay, temps in fall can easily be below freezing (depending on what you are calling fall) and conditions can change very quickly.
Also you will need to arrange for supplies, it is not really possible to show up with nothing and eek out a life for yourself. Planning, prep and at least minimal gear are required, so do your homework. Many places are fly in and organizing supply flights and transfers is very important. Many small airlines serve bush Alaska and which you use will depend on where you go.
Really what you are wanting to do is not very realistic for someone without the experience and knowledge about Alaska, Into the Wild is only one of many stories of people going out to 'live off the land' and realizing they were in way over their heads.
I would read ever account I could get my hands on of people who have done successfully what you want to do. Ideally you would be able to speak or work with trappers, mushers, outdoors people, anyone who has done what you want to do to learn what you can from them.
Make sure you are proficient at (at least) the following skills/topics:
Firearms
wildlife tracking/identification/behavior
fire
basic structure building
getting safe water
navigation (and bring maps!!!!)
reading rivers (Alaskas are not like the rivers outside*)
knots and ropes
wilderness survival, which must include cold weather
hypothermia and basic first aid
edible plants, and be area specific
camping and hiking
bear safety
food prep, preservation, and safety
if you are a US citizen you don't need a visa. But you absolutely should leave a travel plan with someone, that includes where you are going and how long you will be gone. So they know when and where to send the rescue party.
Good books:
Arctic Daughter
http://www.amazon.com/Arctic-Daughter-Wi鈥?/a>
One Mans Wilderness, Dick Proenneke is amazing!
http://www.amazon.com/One-Mans-Wildernes鈥?/a>
Arctic Homestead
http://www.amazon.com/Arctic-Homestead-F鈥?/a>
The Final Frontiersman
http://www.amazon.com/Final-Frontiersman鈥?/a>
And read up on survival, like "Deep Survival" and "the Unthinkable"
I think that maybe finding a remote job, or using a guise would be a much more realistic option for you, and still let you experience being 'out there'
*outside is what we call the lower 48 and pretty much anyplace outside of AlaskaWhat should I be aware of when considering moving into the alaskan wilderness for 3 months?
