National Parks - National Government
State Parks - State Government
Wildlife areas - State Government. How operates national parks, forests and wilderness areas?
The national parks, forests and wilderness areas are under the Secretary of the Department of the Interior. The Interior Secretary is a presidental cabinet post; the incumbent is nominated by the President and confirmed by the Senate. The head of the National Parks is also confirmed by the Senate.
State parks, forests, and wilderness areas are similar in nature to the governance of the National scene but are under the authority of the governor of their respective state. I am not sure that the heads of state park services need to be confirmed by a legislative body.
Your question in effect is correctly stated since national parks are run by the National Park Service [20,000+ employees]; state - parks, forests, other natural wilderness - are most often run by appointees of their respective govenors.
